Karl's POV:

Today was like every day, I got up and did absolutely nothing. I loved the tower but it was so unnecessarily boring for no reason.

"Karl, sweetheart!" I heard my mother call from the distance.

"Yes, mom?" I answer quietly as I hear her footsteps get closer to me.

"Have you done your chores? I have a surprise but you can't have it until you give something in return!"

"Mhm, I've done everything today." She smiled and pulled out a small box from her basket. It was purple with a gold lace and a bow on top. I open it slowly to see a ring that had a green gem, it was gorgeous and sparkled in the small light the window gave.

"Wow, it's beautiful." I respond, holding it with my thumb and index finger.

"I know right? I just had to get it for you." She set down her basket and started taking out the items that were inside of it. Mostly containing of food.

"I'm sorry but I have to go again. I've been so busy lately, I feel terrible. You forgive me, right?" Her words stung my heart, as I got older I only now realized how manipulative and cocky she was.

"Yes, I forgive you." I sighed, I didn't like these conversations we had, she always has to ruin something precious to me. (Remember that, lol)

"Alright, well I'll be back in a few days."

"Mom, can you get me something?"

"Isn't that ring enough? I had to pay a few hefty pennies for that."

"Yeah, but it's almost my birthday and I'd really like something else."

"What? It can't be your birthday already! Oh my, where have the days gone?" She trails off, going on a rant about how I should cherish my youth and not grow up.

"Mother, the gift."

"Oh, right. Well, what do you want?"

I stay silent for a second, unsure of how she'd react to the question.

"Can I go see the glowing lights?"

She stays quiet, I start getting anxious, worried she's mad. She laughs.

"Okay, that was funny. I'll see you in a few days."

"I'm not joking?"

She's quiet again.

"No, absolutely not! You know what happens to people when they're out there, I'm not letting you out."

"Mom, please. I'll be 18, I can handle it!"

"No. No is final, Karl."

I sit there silently. She didn't even consider it, she just laughed and said no.

"Okay.." I respond and turn back to the window. Tears are prickling my eyes as I try to not breakdown in front of my mother.

"Goodbye, Karl. I love you."

"I love you too." My voice is shaky while I respond. My mother scoffs and walks off. (Technically Karl doesn't have long hair so let's just ignore how they get down and up, okay?)

I slide my hands through my fluffy brown hair. The outside looks so amazing, the fields of flowers, the gorgeous mountains and clouds that tower over everything, it's like a dream you can't imagine without true thought. I'd give the world just to experience it.

Feeling inspired, I grab paints and start customizing the walls in the tower. Everything a special sight I've seen once or twice. The last being the glowing lights, the dazzling works of art that I see every year on my birthday, the calming sensation of importance and need.

Short chapter, hope you enjoyed! More to come out soon!! :D
