Chapter 5

Hello! I'm back now that school has calmed down a bit. I'll try to update as often as possible! Now, ON TO THE STORY!!!

 

Annabeth's POV

I was having a pretty great month. I'm almost positive I like Percy, and Piper is convinced he likes me. And when I thought about him, it felt as if a thousand butterflies were erupting in my stomach. When he had come up to me and asked me about the party, I thought I would faint.

And it makes me sick.

How could he be affecting me THIS MUCH! I mean, he's only a guy. It's just the way his raven black hair lays messily on his head, or the way his sea green eyes look as if they are trying to tell me a story, only in a language that I don't know. I felt a presence behind me and whipped around, only to see Piper standing there with a knowing look in her eyes.

"So, did kelp head ask you to that party yet?" she asked with a knowing smirk.

He had gotten that nickname when we had gone down to the park about a week ago. (AN; ABOUT A WEEK AGO, WEEK AGO) Leo, Percy, and Jason had been messing around by this pond. Out of nowhere, Leo whipped out a lighter and accidentally set Percy's shirt on fire. Percy had jumped in the water, and had come up with his head covered in algae. It had looked like he had seaweed pouring out of his ears, and I had called him Seaweed Brain. That nickname had led to many other variations.

"As a matter of fact, he did." I said, heat crawling up my cheeks. Piper just flashed me a smile that made me fear for my love life. She loved to put couples together, and I really didn't want her barging in on mine. Before I could say anything, she turned on her heel and sauntered towards Jason, who wrapped his arm around her waist and continued down the hallway with her.

I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. Hey, I'm not going to be at school today, but we could meet up after. Maybe at your house? I need LOTS of help on the homework for, well, everything, the text read. From Percy, of course.

I responded, Yeah sure. You know where I live. Come to my house @3 and I'll help you catch up with what you missed.

Even though we were both dyslexic and ADHD, as were most of our friends, I was the smartest one there. I don't know, learning just came naturally to me.

After school, I gathered Percy's homework and went home. When I got there, I saw a figure huddled up against my doorstep. Must be Percy, I thought. I walked up and saw his raven black hair blowing in the wind. I tapped his shoulder without looking at his face and went on to unlock my front door. My parents were away on business and Matthew and Bobby were at one of their friend's houses. I walked in and heard Percy behind me. After I set my books down on the couch, I turned around, and bit back a scream.

Percy's face was disfigured with slash marks. I could see his hairline was crusted with blood. He had a little blood soaking through his sleeves. He took one last look at me, then at his arms. I heard him mutter my name pleadingly, then his eyes rolled up in his head, and he pitched forward, falling on the floor with a thump.

I immediately rushed over to him, tugging off his hoodie and shirt to get a better look at his injuries. Under his shirt was a mess of scars and cuts, new and old. Blood began to stain my step-mother's new rug. I flipped him on his back and gaped at what I saw. Scattered around his midsection was what looked like two puncture holes burned into his skin. Taser marks. I didn't know what to do, I had no medical experience at all. I didn't want to call the cops, I mean, there was a reason Percy didn't tell them.

I called Jason. He had spent two years working in a hospital for community service for Student Government. He had been bound to pick up something right? I took one last look at Percy's marred body, then turned around and called Jason.
