Now, I don't know if you remember, or if I even mentioned them, The Unusuals? Any humanoid that's not a mermaid, Fairy, Dwarf, or Human is called an Unusual. They call themselves the AVWS community, kind of like the LGBT community, only this one stands for Avians, (people with wings) Vampires, Werewolves and Shapeshifters. Normally they're pleasant, lovely people, but a mentally ill AVWS person can be scary. The Rigs, the scary prison off the coast of our town, is a AVWS prison. And I just remembered that they recently had a bailout. Anyway, let's get back to homecoming.
"Why- why would we want to go downtown?" Emily was shocked by the thought of it.
"Just drive by! You know, I wanna see" Javier defended himself.
"Whatever, I'm down, as long as we don't like, get involved or anything" Tony said reluctantly.
"Ugh! Okay, whatever!" Emily gave in to the pressure, and in her anxiety, twirled the tight curls of her hair in her fingers.
The four of us hopped into the limo, which was waiting for us in the parking lot.
"Wait, Tony, where's Nayeli?" I just realized she was missing.
"Oh, her parents rushed over here and picked her up when they heard about it," He looked disappointed.
In about three minutes of sitting uneasily in the limo, we reached Fountain Gardens.
"Okay, you can drop us off here, thank you!" Emily said to the driver.
His voice came through the glass, "Are you sure? It looks unsafe for four teens" He was concerned about is. How sweet.
Bruno spoke up, "No, we'll be okay, thanks though!"
We hopped out and finally got a good look at what was happening.
There was smoke, everywhere. Lots of shouting, cars were burning. People were running around in the dim light, with sticks, hammers, anything they could find, sometimes hitting people, sometimes cars, sometimes businesses. Police and firefighters lit the black smoke with red and blue, but there were too many people in the way. One of the stores or restaurants or something, was completely enveloped in thick, curling flames, but no one was doing anything. Huge feathers, from Avians, littered the ground, along with clothes, beer bottles, sticks, weapons, books, and so much other stuff. I was scared.
"Uh... can we go home now?" Tony said quietly.
"Please," Bruno whispered.
We turned around and started walking, but a crowd of screaming and shouting people, all old and gangly looking, suddenly surrounded us and dragged us apart, and past here I don't know what happened, it felt like... A dream, almost. I remember breaking car windows, punching people in the face, and tripping and my ankle and wrist hurting excruciatingly. Did I break them?
