Rain came down in thin sheets. Glancing up at the scoreboard as I jogged onto the soaked field our victory seemed hopeless. Oceanview High might just beat us this year. We'd be an embarrassment. No, I was the embarrassment. I was thinking too much, before I knew it I was back-down, staring at the black sky, my head throbbing and spinning.
"Turner! Get it together!" I heard a voice say, but I didn't really prosses it. Hands reached for me and helped me up, but I was too out of it to know what was happening.

From what I heard later, we won the game, but I was nearly throwing up at the end, so I went straight home. Apparently, I contracted the flu and got a concussion at the same time.

Limping inside from exhaust and nausea, I saw a news reporter on TV, but no one is watching. My whole family was sick too, so they must be asleep. The headline says "PRISON BREAK: 20 PRISONERS, INCLUDING SERIAL KILLER SLYTHE MCGLYNN ESCAPE THE RIGS" Uh-oh. The Rig is a prison, though technically it's an old oil rig turned into a prison, that holds some of the most deadly and dangerous prisoners. Slythe McGlynn, for example, was a shapeshifter, and used his power to stalk his victims for more than a year before killing them and their whole family.
Just after I read the headline, though, there was a thunder. Everything in my house went black. The only light came in from the streetlight across the street. Silhouetted in the light there was a man. he seemed... long. his shoulders slumped too far and his arms went down to his knees. Freaked out, I shut the curtains. The house was completely dark. My head was pounding and I felt like puking, so I hobbled slowly upstairs and fell into my bed.

"Aaron?" A disembodied voice drifted into my ears. Slowly, I rolled over and opened my eyes. There, sitting at my desk was Tony. Who else? "Hey man, good morning!" he said, suppressing a laugh.

"What?" I spat back irritably, "What time is it? Why are you laughing at me?"
"Dude, School is over! You slept through an entire school day!" Tony managed between fits of laughter.

I groaned. "Whatever, at least I feel better. Did I miss anything important?"

"Not really, just the unit test in History."

I groaned again, rolling out of bed.

"Here, my mom is making me give you this," He offered me a thermos. "It's soup. Makes everyone feel better"

"Thanks. Come downstairs with me." I was freezing. Why the heck is it so cold? It's three in the afternoon! So, I wrapped myself in a blanket and dragged that and Tony down to the kitchen.
