Mixed with golden yellow stripes adored Fred's tie as he fixed it around his neck and under his shirt collar. Plenty of other items in the room were decorated with a similar shade of red, the bedsheets, curtains, tapestries, just to name a few. Fred had never particularly cared too much about his appearance, although he found that the older he got the more he began to care.
Well, he still didn't care enough to untie his shoelaces and re-tie them once on his feet. Today was the day he and his twin would try to put their names into the Goblet of Fire. The plan was simple really, just use an ageing potion that they had spent the early hours of the morning making in secret, away from the prying eyes of professors.
"If you don't stop looking in that mirror, I'll break it." George stomped into the dorm room, clearly impatient. Fred threw his robe around his shoulders and slipped his arms through the sleeves, "Don't do that! We're looking for all the luck we can for today..." Fred wasn't nervous about anything, in fact, he was feeling quite confident, it was more so that he really wanted it to work.
George rolled his eyes and placed his hand on his twin's shoulder, "Freddie, we were born lucky. Now, come on!" He raced out of the room, Fred followed closely behind. They hyped each other up on their way down to the Great Hall, running seemed to work best. Running in the corridors was supposedly forbidden so a little bit of rule-breaking may have added to the thrill.
Upon entering the hall and exciting the crowd of students that surrounded the goblet, the twins announced their little plan. "It's not going to work!" Hermione sang, facing away from them on the bench. Fred hadn't even noticed her there until now...how did he not see her. The most likely explanation was Fred enjoyed the attention he and George were receiving. The brothers glanced at each other before kneeling on either side of her. "Oh yeah?" Fred started and George finished, "Why's that, Granger?"
Hermione pointed towards the glowing circle that surrounded the goblet and started explaining, "See this?" They nodded, "This is an age line, Dumbledore drew it himself."
"So?" He asked, his voice laced with cheekiness.
Hermione slammed her large book down onto her lap and huffed, a gesture Fred found hard to not smile at. "So...a genius like Dumbledore couldn't possibly be fooled by something so pathetically dim-witted as an ageing potion!"
"Well, that's why it's so brilliant..." Fred spoke again only this time he realised how close his face was to hers, as she looked at him their eyes met and he couldn't seem to look anywhere else until George started speaking. "-because it's so pathetically dim-witted," by then Hermione had turned to face his twin.
George got back to his feet and Fred followed, "Ready Fred?" "Ready George!" They both downed the little potion and simultaneously jumped inside the magically enclosed area. They made sure they were staying put for a mere two seconds before the crowd erupted into a loud cheer. Only, as they tossed their names inside the magic cup, blue smoke exploded from within the goblet and all over the room. It even managed to pick both Fred and George off their feet and throw them across the room.
Their once red hair turned a light shade of grey and their once bare chins sprouted large fluffy beards. "You said!" "You said!"
Fred pounced on top of George and George retaliated just as much. Everyone crowded around the pair and started chanting the word 'fight' over and over. Not even ten seconds had passed before the chants became less and less loud. The twins pushed themselves off each other to see what caught everyone's attention.
Victor Krum.
He strode into the room, looking extremely proud and sure of himself. He walked straight through the age line and tossed his name into the goblet with as little as a flick of his hand. Then he glanced and winked at someone, but not just anyone, it was Hermione. And she was smiling.
