Scrubbing toilets and dusting shelves is totally not how I wanted to spend my summer vacation this year. I could be on the coast of Florida and at the beach every day. Like seriously, it's only like 5 blocks away from my house. Me getting a gorgeous tan and not from the booths, but from radiation. And worst part is, I don't even get to wear that adorable maids outfit. No sir, I'm stuck with a teal t-shirt and a teal skirt, with a white apron holding cleaning supplies.
I vigorously scrub the side of the toilet until my rag thins out and their is not a trace of the disinfectant spray. I snatch the bottle of disinfectant and spray it on the rag and the side of the toilet bowl and keep scrubbing. I didn't pick this job, my mom did. All because I stole her credit card and wasted $564.89. Now I gotta pay her back with this job. $4 an hour which isn't enough pay to me.
"Liz, hurry up with the toilet. I need you to make my bed!" A sickly sweet voice cascades around the corner, reaching my ears. Great, what does Julie want now?
Julie was the daughter of my boss, Ms. Fitzgerald. She was 9 years old and a pain. She really takes the full advantage of having house cleaning in her huge house. She's not even pretty! She has a matted orange mop of unruly curls with freckles making her look like she has chicken pox. Her eyes are as light as gray can get without being white with flecks of green. Her eyes remind me of a fog covered bog.
I put my rag down and get off of my knees, pushing my shiny blonde hair out of my deep pool of blue eyes. I tie my hair back in a lazy ponytail and head to Julie's room. Ever since she started ordering me around I would wish I would forget which door it was, giving me an excuse of ignoring her but I always remember; 3rd door on the left.
I turn the doorknob to enter Julie'a room. It looks like a landfill! Toys are scattered across the floor along with clothes. Papers were everywhere and markers marking up the carpet. Low and behold it's Julie herself, jumping on the bed. The sheets were flying in the air and tumbling off if the kind sized water bed. I run to that side of the room and pluck Julie off of the bed. She wriggles in my hands.
"Stop it Liz! I wanna jump on the bed!" She screeches, trying to throw punches towards me.
"You're not supposed to jump on a water bed Julie. You could burst the mattress and the water would shoot up flooding your room," I say, raising Julie above my head, sighing and rolling my eyes. Julie stops wriggling and fighting me. I finally think it's safe to put her down, so I do. She folds her arms against her chest.
"I can't jump on a water bed? Mommy, I wanna regular bed! NOW!!!" Julie screeches again, stomping out of her room and down the stairs. I sigh and start cleaning up her room when I hear a shriek. I already decide its Julie, but she came bolting upstairs with a scared expression across her face.
"Was that you?" She asked worriedly. I shake my head. Julie furrowed her brow and left the room. I hear the shriek again, but this time Julie doesn't come running towards me. Who could it be? Ms. Fitzgerald was at the store buying the groceries and Mr. Fitzgerald was at work. Who could have let out that war splitting scream?
