I let out a high pitched scream as I enter the garden. A snake! A snake is in the garden! I run away from Mr. Lewis's house in fear of the scaly reptilian. He was chilling on his porch, right next to Elves Den Manor. I run up to him all jittery.
"Mr. Lewis, there is a snake in your garden! What should do?" The old man shakes his head gruffly.
"Ms. Wu, I had the opportunity to hire some Mexicans to handle my garden for the summer, but I took mercy on a poor teenage girl trying to get some money for stupid jeans. Do you know how well Mexicans work? But silly me, hiring a girl who can't even kill a snake. You're fired." My face fell. He can't be serious!
Suddenly a nice white convertible pulls up at Elves Den Manor. It was Ms. Fitzgerald. She had many groceries in her hand; it seemed like she was struggling. Mr. Lewis waved towards her.
"Hey Helga, you need another maid? I just fired this one!" He yells even though she was only 10 ft. away. Ms. Fitzgerald nodded and beckoned me over. I wiped the sweat from my brow and jog over. I jump over the line of hedges that separates the yards and I slid to a stop right in front of the woman. She towered over me having short auburn hair and baby blue eyes. She wore too much red lipstick that it looks like she killed somebody then sucked all the blood out of them.
"Your name?" She asked with her voice clipped with generosity.
"I'm Audrey Wu. I can do anything and everything except for killing snakes." Mr. Lewis snickers at my comment. I would love to give him my death stare through my brown eyes but that might send the wrong message towards Ms. Fitzgerald. So instead I flash a big wide smile and follow her inside.
"Today you'll be cleaning out the attic. It won't be that hard, my son Garrett will be helping you. My other maid Liz will lead you up there. Ok? And put your hair up in a ponytail please. Thank you." I nod and accept the purple rubber band that she holds out for me. I gather my short wavy hair into a ponytail and head upstairs, looking for the so-called Liz. I find a tall girl cleaning up what seems to be a toddler's room with long blonde hair gathered in the identical ponytail.
"Hey are you Liz?" I ask sheepishly. The girl turns around and smiles, then she nods.
"I'm the new maid and, Ms. Fitzgerald told me to clean out the attic and she said you would show me where it is." Liz nods again, and ushers me towards the door.
Liz leads me to the top floor and pulls out the pop out ladder. She wipes the dust from her hands onto her apron.
"Here ya go," she says. "Holler if you need me." And with that she heads downstairs back to cleaning the supposedly toddler's room. I hesitantly climb the ladder and pop my head through the opening. I see boxes, lots of boxes and clothes rack and almost everything you could imagine. I climb up on the rusty floorboards.
"Um, is Garrett up here?" I ask. My voice bounces off of the walls. Then I hear a deep voice respond. It was buried in between stacks of boxes. Finally, someone emerges. He's tall, but not that tall. And his hair is the dark. He looked as if he spent a million years tanning in the beach, his skin dark just like his deep, chocolate, eyes. My heart was caught in my throat. This dude was hot.
"Um, hi I'm Audrey the new maid. Ms. Fitzgerald sent me up here to help you clean out the attic," I almost whispered, blowing a loose strand of my hair out of my face, trying to look sexy.
"Can I call you kitten? Yeah, I can. I'm Garrett." He holds his hand out for me to grab and shake. I grab his hand, and he pulls me close. My body is on his chest, in sure he can hear my heart beating fast. His curly hair as black as charcoal looks so soft, so...
Before I can finish my thought, some jazzy music plays. I notice Garrett turned on an old school jukebox. We instantly start dancing, and I start to laugh.
What lonely wants,
Lonely gets,
And little man, little always right hereMy fingers tip-toe up to Garrett's shoulder.
Recline yourself revive yourself at ease for you, for you, for you
My hands run through his curly black hair. His lips, so luscious. It takes all the willpower in me not to force him into a make-out session with me. But I don't have to, because he starts it for me. His lips brush over mine and we collapse on an old sofa. Somehow I ended up in his lap.
What are you doing, Audrey? Your making out with a guy you haven't even had a conversation with, I think as I kiss Garrett. Sadly, I pull away from him. Now I feel like a total slut.
"Listen we, we haven't even spoken 100 words to one another." I laugh. Garrett smiles and pulls my hair out of the ponytail, letting the hair cascade over my shoulders.
"But a kiss says a thousand," he whispers in my ear, his voice tickling it. But I can't. I jump out of his lap and put my hair back in a ponytail. I grab a few random boxes and carry them out of the attic, not looking back.
