Giyuu propelled himself back and forth on the swing, his feet barely reaching the ground underneath him. The other kids ran past him, smiling and giggling as they chased each other around the playground. He watched them carefully, reading their expressions and feeling envious.
He himself yearned for the joy of playing with others. Giyuu never really had friends, unless if his sister counted. She was really one of the few people who was able to keep him company while he pondered about, thinking of what he should do during his spare time.
Although, he wished there was someone else to be with and not just play dress up 24/7. The amount of times his sister had smothered makeup on his face was unimaginable and he always ended up looking like a clown straight out of a circus.
Just thinking about those treacherous moments were enough to send shivers down his spine. He kicked down at the dirt, tossing it over as he continued to kick at it continuously.
"Hey." A voice spoke up, somewhat gruff but still soft.
Giyuu ignored the call, thinking it was one of the kids. He didn't want to bother himself with those kids who ran around and played rough. If he ever dared to mingle with them, next thing he knew someone would've landed in the hospital with a broken arm.
"Hey."
More firmer now, Giyuu couldn't ignore it before looking up at the person in front of him. The kid looked to be around his age, still had the same youth they both shared. He had a pretty noticeable scar on his cheek, big and outstretched. Whatever could've caused it to be there must've been painful itself.
His peach pink hair was bushy but at the same time, well kept. The kid stretched out his arm, with his palm covered in dirt and grime. "You're alone." He mumbled, looking at Giyuu straight in the eye.
"I know."
"Why is that?"
Giyuu averted his gaze away from the kid, a bit frightened from the wild encounter before cautiously answering the question. "I like being alone. I'd rather be alone than play with those kids." Lies.
"No you don't."
Giyuu looked up at the kid again, astonished by the kid's response. "You definitely want to play with them." The kid smiled at him before waving at the other kids. "Hey!" Startled, Giyuu hopped off from his swing and covered the kid's mouth with his hand, not letting a peep escape his mouth. The kids paid no attention to the two of them, it was almost like they didn't hear his shout.
"Stop that." Giyuu hissed, letting go and rubbing his hand against his shirt to wipe off the saliva.
The kid stared at him with wide eyes. "But you said you wanted friends."
"Not like that!" Giyuu snapped, sighing before he sat back down on the swings. The boy mimicked his action, sitting on the neighboring swing and pushing back and forth on it. They stayed silent for a while, watching as the number of kids slowly dispersed before they were the only ones left. Giyuu quickly gazed at the kid before turning his head. "You should go back home now, peach head."
"First of all, that is not my name." He huffed, kicking the dirt. "Second of all, I don't have a home."
Giyuu tilted his head to the right. "Then what is it?"
The boy got off of the swing and stood up mighty and tall. "My name is Sabito." He turned around to meet Giyuu, reaching out his hand once more. "What's your name?"
Hesitantly, Giyuu slowly opened up his mouth. "Giyuu. Tomioka Giyuu." A smile slowly creeped on Sabito's face, turning into a wide grin. Giyuu stared at him in confusion, a bit terrified by how wide the grin was. The boy grabbed Giyuu's hands before the two fell down on the dirt, toppled over each other. The peach haired boy let out a loud laugh, smiling widely as he did so. "You're a weird one." Giyuu murmured, staring at Sabito.
"Giyuu! What're you doing out here so late!"
"Tsutako nee-san." Giyuu brushed off the dirt from his pants, quickly getting up and hugging his sister. Sabito watched in curiosity as the two siblings embraced each other tightly, feeling a bit of jealousy at the act.
Tsutako smiled at her younger brother before rubbing off the dirt from his face. "Come on, let's get back home quickly and you'll get a warm bath. Mom's made your favourite syake daikon." Giyuu smiled at the thought of the food before quickly turning around.
"You're coming with us."
Sabito jerked in his spot, looking from his right then to the left before pointing at himself. "Yeah you." Giyuu said in an assuring voice, staring at the other boy calmly. Tsutako looked at her brother with a puzzled expression but didn't bother to ask him.
Soon enough, Sabito got off from his spot in the dirt and joined hands with Giyuu, holding tightly. "You said you didn't have a place to go to, so you're coming home with us."
"Okay." Sabito mumbled as he smiled at the ground, feeling the warmth in the boy's words.
"So who's this friend you've invited over?"
"His name is Sabito." Giyuu answered, eating his meal hastily and happily, smiling as he did so. His mom smiled back at him, drinking her share of tea before looking at Sabito softly. The boy shifted in his seat, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
Tsutako looked up from her meal, swooping her gaze on Sabito and curtly smiling before looking back at her food.
What a scary family. Sabito shivered, picking up the chopsticks and eating his share. "Thank you for the meal." Giyuu piped up from his seat, picking up his plate before going running off to the kitchen to wash off his plate and glass. The salmon haired boy copied his actions, saying his thanks and running off to stand beside Giyuu. "Here, I can wash the plate for you." He snatched the plate away from his hands, leaving them empty.
Sabito nodded slowly before waiting by the stairs, looking at the surroundings around him. Pictures of the family of three hung on the wall, each face decorated with a smile.
"I'm back." Giyuu muttered, walking towards Sabito as he wiped off water from his hands. "Let's go up to my room and sleep." Sabito nodded in return as he followed Giyuu up the stairs, not missing a skip behind. The raven haired boy opens the door and he was meeted with a welcoming aura.
Sabito looked around the room which was quite plain. There was a single bed with bed sheets that were decorated with blue stars and a bookshelf in the corner containing some mangas and an action figure. There was small TV with a ps4 tucked away in the shelf with some controllers beside it. The carpet they stood on was abnormally soft and comfortable.
"Welcome to my room!" Giyuu opened up his arms wide, looking back at him and smiling. Sabito could almost feel the thump of his heartbeat racing. "What do you think of it?"
"It's a really cool bedroom." Sabito sat down on the carpet, feeling the everlasting fluffiness of it. "Do you have any futons I could use-"
There was a knock on the door before Giyuu pried it open to see who was there. "Thank you mom, goodnight." Giyuu waved off his mom before plopping down the futon onto the floor. "Here you go." He smiled at Sabito, helping him roll it and patting it down before dragging it beside his bed.
The two separated afterwards before Giyuu shut the lights and rolled into bed. Sabito looked up at him as he did so, watching his every move. Noticing this, Giyuu giggled. "What're you looking at?"
The peach haired boy shook his head in return. "It's nothing, goodnight Giyuu." He buried himself deep into the futon, only peeping his eyes out to look at Giyuu smiling back at him.
"Hm, goodnight."
