Rain's eyes opened and he instantly noticed the homey room he was in.

'The f**k...? '

He shifted onto his stomach, his mind fuzzy. He yawned, snuggling into the soft thing below him, probably a bed based on how far up he was from the floor. It was nice and soft, so unlike the hard floor of the alleyways he normally stayed in.

"Hello there~!"

He jolted awake, standing up on his feet before falling back down.

'THE F**K!? '

"Hisssssssssss!"

Rain froze. Did he just...hiss?

"Are you okay!?"

He felt hands wrap around him-f**king MASSIVE hands-and hold him to something warm. He looked up, actually a bit terrified, to see wide, concerned blue eyes.

"Mrow!"

There it was again! Why wouldn't his body let him speak!? He looked down at himself, wondering what was wrong with him, and that's when he saw it.

The soft, bluish grey fur was the first observation. The paws in place of his hands the next. And, of course, the whiskers that were just barely in his view. It made sense to him now, why he didn't feel the cool air as much, why he fell when he tried to stand...he was a cat. He wasn't going to admit it yet, he'd only seen his chest, paws and whiskers, maybe he was just  more catlike than before and this person was a giant?

Then, the fingers started petting him. He didn't understand why, he was clearly a murderer! But...he couldn't help but lean into it, closing his eyes. He felt a deep rumble in his chest and he jolted slightly, not knowing what it was. That was when he heard the purrs.

Was that him?

"Awww, you're adorable!"

'No, I am not adorable, b***h, I'm fearsome! '

"Mew...!"

...That sounded too happy out loud. Meowing made it harder to sound mad unless he hissed, which he didn't know how to do. The one he did before was pure instinct, nothing else, so he was pretty much hopeless on that end. Growling was something he hasn't done yet, so he doesn't even have an idea of how to do that. Overall, he's stuck sounding like a happy cat for now.

"So you don't like being surprised, huh? I'll keep that in mind!"

'I...I can't even right now. Am I really a f**king cat right now? God, why haven't I died yet...come to think of it, he has been really quiet...that's never happened before...he's always talking...it's so quiet...'

Rain kept thinking about one thing after the other, getting lost deep in his thoughts while Rikku, though he didn't know her name, kept petting him. He'd be lying if he said he didn't like it at all, but he hardly even noticed now, the reactions he had were instinct alone.

The purrs grew louder, he felt every bit of the petting but barely even knew it was happening. He was spiraling, deep into his own mind, where he was sure that he would be.

But nothing.

He wasn't there.

He wasn't anywhere.

He was gone.

Rain was free.

For some reason, it didn't feel as good as he hoped it would.

If the price of freedom was being a cat, then was it even worth it? He didn't even remember how he ended up like this, much less how he got into this kid's room.
