They rode further away from the city and finally, Bucky was able to find a place where they could stop. He pulled up into what looked like an abandoned barnyard and parked the motorcycle inside the open building. Rosella got off the motorcycle and as Bucky kicked the stand to hold the bike up, she closed the barn doors. When they both settled, Bucky slowly turned to Rosella, still questioning how she managed to find him. She had flown up to the broken roof and scanned the area to make sure they were really alone. She went back down on the ground and landed in front of Bucky.
"Coast is clear. We should be fine here for a bit." Rosella told him. Bucky exhaled and noticed she was a little paranoid. She kept looking around as if she was being watched and rubbed her upper right arm multiple times. Bucky looked at her and wondered about the outfit she wore. How did she get it? He had assumed she had escaped but what if she didn't.
Rosella then went further into the barn and climbed up the ladder that led up to the upper floors.
"You could've flown up." Bucky reminded her. Rosella chuckled as she reached the top.
"Sometimes I forget about it." Bucky could see her cleaning out the dirt and hay that occupied the space, throwing it to the ground. "We could rest here if we need to." She looked down at him. "Come up." Bucky furrowed his eyebrows and he was hesitant. "What? Afraid of heights?" She teased. Bucky playfully scoffed and walked over to the ladder. As he began to climb it, it creaked under his feet. He reached the top and sat next to Rosella. He glanced at her and shrugged.
"Now what?" he asked. She was on his left and she quickly scanned him up and down.
"I dunno. Take a nap?" Rosella suggested half-joking. Bucky tossed her a fake smile.
"You know what I'd like to do?" He rhetorically asked. Rosella's brown eyes penetrated his heart and he could tell she was hiding something. He wanted so badly to trust her but she carried too many red flags at the moment. "Know just how the hell did you find me?" Rosella didn't even flinch at his question. She was calm as she answered him.
"Hydra. Who else?" She revealed.
"So you're working for them." He said. Rosella leaned her head back against the wall.
"I have no choice. They're gonna kill me." She told him. He looked at her.
"Hydra wants to kill everyone."
"Not you." She sat up straight and stared into his eyes. "They sent me to bring you back. If I don't, they're gonna blow me up from the inside." She explained.
"I'm not going back." he firmly said.
"I know." She replied a bit sadly. Bucky glanced down at his metal arm that was covered by his maroon long sleeve shirt. He couldn't go back to mindlessly harming innocents. It wasn't him anymore and Hydra was not going to bring the soldier back.
"I can't let Hydra use me to clean up their messes anymore." He began and Rosella looked away. "But I can't just let you die either." She didn't look at him and he gently touched her arm. She quickly turned her head to him and her eyes were watery. It wasn't her fault, Bucky reminded himself. She was a victim like he was. Used and broken. Both snatched from their previous life. It wasn't fair. "You keep touching your arm."
"Yeah, that's where they put the device to blow me up." Rosella then took his metal hand and placed it on her upper arm. "Right here." She said. "Right on my bone." Bucky knew the Hydra dealt with insane technology but nothing like that. Did he have one in him?
"Maybe we can take it out." He suggested.
"Do you know to surgically cut me open and remove the device without puncturing my cephalic vein?" She asked in concern.
