《CHAPTER 4》

Theodore Mathews was a rich young spoiled brat however had a clean and pure heart. He was very handsome indeed, and his manners made him a complete gentleman.

Emma and Theodore were very close to each other, both because of their family relations and also because of the same institution they went to. 'John Quincy Adams School of young boys and girls.'

"Theodore!" shouted Emma chuckling as she saw him standing in front of the entrance gate of the school. They both ran and embraced one another lovingly. "Indeed what a scenic view! Are you two done love birds?" said Meg who later burst out laughing. "We aren't one!" echoed Theodore and Emma together. Meg and Eliza nodded and went away still chuckling and later on joining their own crushes. They were all a group of true friends: Theodore, Emma, Meg, Jack, Eliza and Timothy. They were inseparables and couldn't live without each other.

As they settled themselves in their grade, a conversation began which Emma didn't want to participate in. It was about the ball. As everyone discussed about it and chose their respective partners (which you would already know) Meg-Jack, Eliza-Timothy but as for Theodore and Emma, they didn't wish to ask each other out. Until, the unexpected happened. "Oh Theodore, there you are!" cried an unknown person. She was the little queen bee of the institution. "If it isn't Maya Duncan!" cried Eliza and Meg together. Maya Duncan was the prettiest girl at school and was famous among the boys of course.
Theodore had a crush on Maya Duncan, but never told this to Emma, her childhood friend.

" Would you do me the honor to be my partner at the ball my Theo!?" At this, everyone shouted " Nobody calls him Theo, but Emma, Maya!" Theodore was disturbed a little for her calling him Theo but as he liked her, he told his friends to calm down. Emma never payed a least amount of attention at this dramatization until Maya had called him Theo nevertheless she didn't utter a word. As far as the answer to Maya's question was concerned, Theodore eagerly said yes. Emma wasn't troubled at all by this, but the fact that Theodore hid something from her made her upset. She quickly went to ask him "Why didn't you tell me Theo that you love Maya?" "Love is a strong word E, I just like her and I never told you because you detest her and so does our group and I never wanted to make you sad. That's all. Well now that our french class has commenced shall I save a seat for my dearest friend?" said Theodore hoping to receive a positive reply. Unfortunately, Emma was really upset and did not want to even see his face hence she replied "No Theodore Mathews, I want to sit with Meg and Eliza. Every time I do with you, but at present I desire to spend time with them. Please don't mind." Theodore nodded and sat with Jack and Tom (Timothy) but deep down inside he knew his bosom buddy was very agitated. At John Quincy Adams, children were taught French and literature together as for the other subjects were different according to their gender. While girls were taught to embroider, cutlery and table manners as mentioned earlier, boys were taught the state matters and to be tough and strong for battle. Soon, the school ended with a gloomy day for Theodore and Emma, as both were upset due to different reasons. While walking down the lane together all six of them, Theodore took Emma aside and made an attempt of apology

"Dear E, I know you are upset with me regarding what happened earlier, I promise I will share everything with you henceforth." But Emma unlike always was adamant. She felt sad, she felt heartbroken buy didn't say a word and left alone for her house.
