Two smartasses and Reed

Matt 💓: The fuck is this, Okamura?

Aran: Since you can't pull it together, I'm taking matters into my own hands

Matt 💓: Dude, don't

Aran: Cat, Reed would like to hear if you wanna
come to our Halloween party Friday?

Matt 💓: 😑😑

Me: You guys are having another party?

Matt 💓: The twins...

Aran: Nuff said

Me: Uh, can I bring a few friends?

Matt 💓: Who?

Aran: You can bring anyone you want

Matt 💓: 😠😠

Me: I'll think about it

Aran: Costumes are mandatory. Cadin's rule

Matt 💓: He's lying; it's his

Aran: 🤷

Me: 😂😂

"Fill me in on everything," Ava sings as she waltzes into my room Sunday night after a weekend visiting her girlfriend upstate.

"Why are you so cheerful?" I ask, putting aside the book I was reading as she plops down on my bed.

"It's called being in love."

"That sounds exhausting."

She swats my shoulder. "Why are you so grumpy?"

"Well, we can't all be high on the endorphin release of multiple orgasms, can we?"

Ava laughs, the carefree sound of someone who never takes life too seriously. She rolls onto her side, propping her head on her hand. "So I take it things didn't go all that well this weekend? Was it a Chloé thing or a Reed thing?"

"You do know her name is Chloé Reed, right?"

Ava pinches my side with an admonishing look. "Stop avoiding the question."

I grimace, looking at the ceiling. "Both, I guess. Or no, things went pretty well with Chloé, actually. It was really good to see her. It was a bit unnerving watching her and Matt interact, though," I say, drawing in a breath as images of that first dinner flash through my head. "Before coming here, I presumed Chloé was right and that Matt was the largest issue in their relationship, but then I started spending time with him, and it seemed like maybe Chloé downplayed her role. But then, seeing how he spoke to her at dinner, he is definitely not innocent. So now I don't know what to believe."
