Matthew and Nathan slowly drifted away from each other after they graduated from High School, where the former finished as the class valedictorian, since they decided to pursue their college education in two different states within the country.
Matthew attended Duke University in North Carolina and finished with summa cum laude honors while simultaneously being part of the fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. Meanwhile, Nathan finished his degree in college at Fortis College in Virginia.
During Matthew's time in college, he met a girl named Stephanie in some class that he had with her. Both of them fell in love, and they eventually got married, which happened immediately after graduating from their respective college programs.
As they started looking for jobs, Matthew and Stephanie moved back to California. Nathan moved back to the state a few months later.
===TIME SKIP===
One day, Nathan had recently finished doing a cover of some anime opening in his studio back in his house.
When he was feeling tired, Nathan said to himself, "I need some kinda break. Singing this shit on repeat is obviously not gonna be good for my voice. Plus, I'm feeling a bit tired from singing since morning." So, Nathan stepped out of his studio for a while, went downstairs to his living room, sat on his couch, and took out his laptop.
He proceeded to open YouTube on a tab in Google Chrome.
All of a sudden, he was recommended a video titled "Game Theory: The Science of Sonic the Hedgehog". It got Nathan curious, telling himself, "Ooh, what could this be about? I do love playing video games." Nathan proceeded to watch the video.
While watching, Nathan listened to the voice of who was talking.
He thought to himself, "Whoever this voice is from, this sounds really familiar... I feel like I know who's talking in this video." Nathan decided not to focus on the video's content, and instead listened extremely closely to the voice that he heard talking throughout the video.
As the video ended, Nathan was still left puzzled as to who was the voice behind it.
He said to himself, "I swear to God, this fucking voice is clearly from someone I've known and met before. But whoever the fuck could it be?" Nathan proceeded to click on the About page of the video where the channel came from, named Game Theory.
He found the channel owner's Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.
Nathan thought to himself, "I better get any idea of who's behind this damn channel as I go through these damn links. I know I ain't crazy. That voice definitely sounds familiar to me." He proceeded to click on the link for the channel's Instagram page.
Nathan found out that some man named MatPat was the host of the channel.
He thought to himself, "This MatPat name sounds familiar." As he went through the account's photos, Nathan said to himself, "This guy's face looks familiar to me, too." All of a sudden, he said to himself, "Oh, my fucking God. I think I've got an idea now."
Nathan proceeded to grab his yearbook from high school.
He then looked through every student from his class. When he found Matthew's name and compared it to MatPat's photos, Nathan exclaimed, "Oh, shit. It's him! It fucking is him!" As he looked through Game Theory's Facebook page and Matthew's Facebook profile, he said to himself, "I knew that voice sounded familiar! It was definitely his!"
Nathan immediately followed Matthew's Instagram page and Twitter profile, and also gave Game Theory's Facebook page a Like.
Afterwards, Nathan sighed in joy and said to himself, "Damn, I remember staying some nights over at his house when this place burned down while I was in class. Fuck, I need to make up with lost time with his ass. How could I forget the kiss he gave me after I apologized for talking shit about him because I never meant what I told the class about him?"
So, Nathan proceeded to send him a message on Matthew's personal Instagram profile, which has now been verified since being famous for the channel.
He said to him:
"hey, MatPat. you probably don't remember me, but I'm one of your classmates back in junior and senior year. I'm that dude named Nathan. that guy you invited to stay over at yours because his house suddenly burned down while in class.
listen, YouTube recommended me some old-ass video from your channel, and I quickly recognized you because the voice sounded so damn familiar.
and hey, by the time that you get this, you maybe a bit busy right now. but whenever you're free soon, would you like to get some coffee with me?"
Nathan breathed out in relief after sending the message to Matthew.
