Can't believe it, the 'idiot' duo are begging for people to help them for their final exams. They already tried to ask Tsukishima but he, like always, declined.
They desperately want to pass the finals because if they don't they don't get to go to the practice camp. How ridiculous. "Tsukishima! Please!" Hinata shouted throughout the court, him and Kageyama begging on their knees. 'How weird' again Tsukishima has that same face he gave them earlier. "No".
The two have failed again but then a new tutor has appeared in their mind. "Yamaguchi!" He stood frozen. 'Me?' "Don't waste your time on them tadashi" Yamaguchi nodded slightly, though the faces on the duo are tempting.
"Well, why don't I take one of them and you take the other..?" Yamaguchi tried to convince Tsukishima that it wouldn't be hard if they taught only one each. In the end, Tsukishima agreed. This won't be too hard.

Surprisingly, Yamaguchi ended up with Kageyama because every time Tsukishima and Kageyama talk it ends with a war. Soo..."What are you struggling with?" Yamaguchi smiled reassuringly, he hopes Kageyama understands his way of teaching.
"English and math" 'Oh!' This can't be that hard, Yamaguchi is neutral in those classes. He has a nice grade in them unlike Tsukishima who has A's in them. "Okay! Let's start off with Math!" Yamaguchi collects Kageyama's homework and examines it before turning it back to Kageyama.
"So the——- —— —-"
It's only been a few minutes and Kageyama is still stuck on the 2nd question. "This is a whole new thing, how am I supposed to learn two things at once?" Kageyama glares at the paper, not really understanding the big deal.
"But they are both in the same category," Yamaguchi explains carefully to Kageyama. He only nods at Yamaguchi's response. Yamaguchi takes it back, this is extremely hard. Who knew Kageyama was this stupid.
Yamaguchi declared that he wasn't gonna give up, he didn't want Tsukishima to prove him wrong. "Okay, it's fine I'll explain it better" Yamaguchi sighed and started going off how these two math problems are the same but one has an additional problem. Kageyama silently listened the whole time.
When Yamaguchi stopped talking, Kageyama kinda understood what the freckled boy said. He wrote down what he thought the answer would be.

After a while, they finally got the page done. Yamaguchi reviewed the homework. To Yamaguchi's surprise Kageyama got most of them correct while he still needed help with other things, Yamaguchi felt proud for himself and Kageyama. "This is awesome! I know you'll pass the exam" Yamaguchi smiled softly.
Kageyama smiled slightly back, he's still working on it but he can't help but feel grateful to Yamaguchi for helping him out. He knows that he isn't the best at school but he's really gonna try. He glances at how Yamaguchi's lips upturned, Yamaguchi smiled delightfully. Yeah he's gonna try his hardest to impress Yamaguchi.
"Eh.. Kageyama!" Has Kageyama been staring too long? He shakes his previous thoughts out of his head. Yamaguchi shouted Kageyama's name a few times, it looked like Kageyama was staring off into space. Maybe Kageyama had enough math. Yamaguchi chuckled.
"Kageyama, do you want to get meat buns? It's my treat!" Yamaguchi offered Kageyama meat buns for his hard work today which Kageyama obviously accepted. They both walked to the convenience store, as they walked it was pretty silent.
Yamaguchi and Kageyama never had a chance to talk to each other during volleyball practice. They've always been awkward with each other, which is the reason why it's so tricky for them to have a conversation. "Thanks.." Yamaguchi's eyes widened at the small comment.
He glances at Kageyama, who was staring at the ground. "No problem." Yamaguchi replied. Yamaguchi could tell that they were almost at the convenience store. He felt grateful.
Kageyama failed to muster up the words, he badly wanted to talk to Yamaguchi, but his brain couldn't think of a subject. Kageyama always thought of Yamaguchi as Tsukishima's sidekick, who could blame him. He always sees Yamaguchi beside Tsukishima like a lap dog.
Kageyama shakes his head, no Yamaguchi is his own person. If he was Yamaguchi he would have knocked some sense into Tsukishima. Kageyama turned his head a bit to get a good look at Yamaguchi. He never noticed Yamaguchi's freckles or his wide eyes, he never seemed to care for Yamaguchi.
The guilt is getting to him, he sighs internally. He should at least be friends and someone who Yamaguchi could trust. So with that in mind..
"You're..very good at math" Kageyama blurted out, Yamaguchi was probably laughing at him. Kageyama wishes he can take his words back. All Yamaguchi did was smile, "thanks, you're getting better too." A random compliment, obviously Yamaguchi was taken back but it felt good to be complimented.
"How do you do it?" Kageyama shook his head in disbelief, Yamaguchi must be a robot.
"That's because I don't have a volleyball for a brain." Yamaguchi chuckled, smiling smugly at Kageyama. So even without Tsukishima, Yamaguchi is still snide. Kageyama can't help but let out a chuckle. They have grown a bit comfortable, yes there are some awkward silences but they can strike up a cocky conversation.
The both of them didn't even realize they were at the convenience store until they saw the bright light inside the store, when Kageyama went to reach the doorknob his fingers unexpectedly met with Yamaguchi's. The both of them flushed in embarrassment and tucked their hands away. "Sorry" Kageyama croaked out before he quickly reached the doorknob and opened the door to gesture at Yamaguchi first.
They were both in the small store to order meat buns that were super delicious. On their way home they ate them and talked comfortably. It's been a good day.

It was the day for the final exam, everyone was soon to be tense and nervous. Especially for Hinata and Kageyama, they have been trembling in fear since morning. They're team gave them their support. Yamaguchi wished Kageyama good luck.
"Here, it's a good luck charm" Yamaguchi handed Kageyama a black crow feather keychain, since karasuno's mascot is a crow. Kageyama gladly accepted the gift. He feels the ruffles of the feather under his fingertips. He attempts to smile at Yamaguchi, it's a genuine smile.
Yamaguchi chuckles lightly before bidding goodbye to Kageyama. He really hopes Kageyama passes the exam.
After a nerve racking amount of time, everyone has finished their exam. Hinata prays he passed, Kageyama can't help but feel anxious. He studied all night with Yamaguchi the day before.
While he hesitantly grabbed the graded exam from his teacher, he couldn't open his eyes to take a peek. He sighs and decides to get over his feelings and he opens his eyes to see a big red 89%. He felt Incredible, it's his first time receiving such a great number.
His adrenaline spiraled, he wanted to cheer out loud. He turned to find Yamaguchi, but sadly he couldn't find the freckled boy. He rushed out of the room, his big grin on his face confused Hinata. He has never seen the grouchy king all happy.
Kageyama ran until he saw the green haired boy, he pulled Yamaguchi into a tight hug. The freckle boy was astonished and embarrassed since it was in front of Tsukishima. "Kageyama! What's wrong?" Yamaguchi finally calmed Kageyama.
"Thanks Yamaguchi" Kageyama handed Yamaguchi his exam paper, Yamaguchi looked at the grade. He smiled widely, his smile reaching his ears. He Hugged and congratulated Kageyama. They are both super happy about their hard work.
