❛ the course of true love never did run smooth ❜

𝑳𝒀𝑵𝑬𝑨 𝑨𝑳𝑪𝑶𝑺𝑰 𝑾𝑨𝑺 nothing more than the handmaiden of queen titania, and she was perfectly content with that. every day the same as before: wake up, prepare the queen's breakfast, attend to her when asked, and once all of that is done she returns to bed in the evening ready for it all to start over again in the morning. the one thing she can't say the same of was the queen's carefree, spirited son and heir to the fae throne, eron. of course, one fateful day, lynea is dragged to the edge of the faerywoods by said prince and, unfortunately, finds herself trapped in the clutches of the mortal menace that was king arthur.

𝑺𝑼𝑷𝑹𝑰𝑺𝑰𝑵𝑮𝑳𝒀 𝑬𝑵𝑶𝑼𝑮𝑯, 𝑺𝑯𝑬 isn't executed for merely existing, but is rather used as a bargaining token against the fae: the queen's precious handmaiden for their compliance to never disturb the human lands again (which is completely stupid since it was the humans that started this whole mess). and instead of being chained up in the dungeons for probably the rest of eternity, lynea is placed in the care of merlin, a questionable character with a curious apprentice.

𝑷𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑪𝑬 𝑬𝑹𝑶𝑵 𝑭𝑨𝑬𝑹𝒀𝑺, meanwhile, was in utter despair. because of his foolish and reckless behavior, his best friend and long-time crush was trapped in the hands of the wicked humans. so when word reaches the faeries about a bargain for lynea, eron is willing to do whatever it takes to rescue her — even if that means fleeing into the night to find camelot and break her out himself.

𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑬'𝑺 𝑶𝑵𝑳𝒀 𝑶𝑵𝑬 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑩𝑳𝑬𝑴, though: he has no idea where the hell he's going, and soon enough, his path crosses with another lone traveler... who has absolutely no interest in making friends. unfortunately, the traveler is the only person who could take eron to camelot and the traveler herself needs a safe haven — one that the prince of faeries can provide. with a reluctant deal struck between two wayward souls, the long and treacherous journey to camelot begins...

𝑨𝑰𝑵𝑬 𝑲𝑹𝑰𝑶𝑺 𝑯𝑨𝑺 𝑩𝑬𝑬𝑵 in love with her best friend, prince eron, since the beginning of time. however, he's madly in love with his mother's complacent handmaiden and he's just run away to go rescue her like the prince charming he is. now, aine is left alone like the third wheel she's always been, not to mention suddenly being swept up from her humble life as a cafe server to the queen's replacement handmaiden. of course, until lynea gets back.

𝑩𝑼𝑻 𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑵, 𝑻𝑯𝑹𝑶𝑼𝑮𝑯 𝑺𝑶𝑴𝑬 unexpected twist of fate, aine receives a telepathic message from lynea herself, and the two devise an interesting plan: lynea gathers information about the king's court while aine plays messenger and creates an alternative way of getting her friend out of camelot. it's a bit risky, but aine is willing to do anything for her friend. but with people like oberon's head-of-guard "puck" questioning her loyalties to the crown, aine arrives at an impossible crossroads...

𝑻𝑬𝒁𝑹𝑨 𝑳𝑼𝑵𝑬𝑳 𝑫𝑬𝑺𝑷𝑰𝑺𝑬𝑫 𝑯𝑼𝑴𝑨𝑵𝑺. they've spent most of their life locked up in a dingy old cell just because they had horns and was missing a couple fingers. their life was just as cold and dull, with only the company of the equally dull prisoners. the same could be said for tao xing, only she lived with the luxury of being morgana's trusted handmaiden.

𝑾𝑬𝑳𝑳, 𝑺𝑶𝑹𝑻 𝑶𝑭 𝑻𝑹𝑼𝑺𝑻𝑬𝑫 — she hasn't told anyone about her magical oneironautic abilities, and doesn't plan to... until an unexpected trip to the dungeons has her crossing paths with an elven prisoner. when the lock of the cell door clicks open for the first time in tez's life, something also clicks between them and the ever-so curious xing — something that should never occur between two special people like them.

𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑺𝑬 𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑺𝑬𝑪𝑻𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑺𝑻𝑶𝑹𝑰𝑬𝑺 come to a crossroads when the fae have decided to align themselves with gunmar the black and his quest to bring forth the eternal night. xing's dreams begin to hold terrors of her mistress, tez is conflicted between the hope of freedom and the desire of romance, aine is trapped in the lies of her loved ones and the secrets of the palace, eron begins to question where his heart truly lies, and lynea — not but an ordinary handmaiden — must choose between the fae who are willing to lay down their lives for a monster and the newfound friends in camelot, where any sign of magic could result in death.

𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑾𝑯𝑶𝑳𝑬 𝑾𝑶𝑹𝑳𝑫 𝑯𝑨𝑵𝑮𝑺 in the balance as one passive faerie must make a choice — and her decision will shake the worlds of magic forevermore.

𝐄𝐋 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 so i've had this idea for a bit regarding a lil twoast on shakespeare's classic comedy and as i was coming up with character relations and plotline i was like "yah know, instead of making this a long ass series, why not just compress it all together into one book?" so that's what i did. so get ready for passive lynea who grows into a strong young woman, classic ladies' man eron who grows into a responsible prince, fiery aine who grows into her own kind of woman, awkwardly flirty tez and even more awkward, quiet, and timid xing (she is literally a cutie i love her so much).
