The closer she got, the more it just confirmed her suspicions.
There, standing behind her brother, was a man with perfectly combed hair and a black suit.
The same man from the pet store. She was sure of it.
Taking her seat, she waves at her brother, glancing at the body guard.
"(Y/n)! How have you been?" Damien smiles and gives her hands a friendly squeeze.
"I've been great, actually. You?"
"Business has been slow but that always happens this time of the year. Still living by yourself?," he jokes, subtly asking if she had found anyone yet.
Rolling her eyes, she smiles at him. "No, I don't have a boyfriend. But, I did recently acquire seven cats," she says with a pointed glance at the bodyguard.
The body guard didn't show any sign of recognition, but inside he was a little annoyed. Why did he have to give those to Damien's sister, of all people.
"Jesus Christ, seven?" He says with a shocked expression.
"Yeah, some guy was trying to drop them off at the pet store I was in. They said they couldn't take them so he was just going to abandon them somewhere. I didn't want them to die so I offered to take them," she explains with another pointed glance at the bodyguard.
Damien whistles and sits back in his seat. "Damn. I'm not sure if that's super lucky or super unlucky."
"Why would that be unlucky?"
"Well, you don't exactly have enough money for that many pets, do you?" He didn't realize he was being slightly insensitive.
She narrows her eyes at him. "I'll manage."
"I could help you out. A couple hundred a week should be enough, right?"
"Keep your money, Damien. I'm not a charity case," she says, refusing to take money from him.
"Nonsense, I have way more than enough to spend that little," he says, waving it off.
Her eyes twitches. That little? "Keep you damn money," she jokes, laughing.
"Fine, fine. You're so borinnnggg."
The two siblings bickered back and forth, only stopping long enough to place their orders.
Finally, the bickering dies out and it becomes silent for a second.
"How's Mom and Dad?" He asks, looking at his folded hands.
"Not sure, actually. Haven't seen them in a while. You?"
"Not since the last holiday."
"You should go visit them.. they're family, after all."
"I could say the same thing to you," He scoffs.
Their parents weren't exactly the best people in the world. They had never been abusive but they weren't the most accepting. They were raised a certain way and were determined that their kids would be the same.
Damien was the favorite child. He was successful and didn't rebel. At least, that's what they thought.
(Y/n), on the other hand, didn't want to work for the family business. She wanted to live her own life and be free from the strict hold of her parents.
