"Ava, are you alright back there?" Dr. Genevieve called, glancing at the rear mirror.
I sat in her posh leather seated car, nodding my head frantically.
After I destroyed more school property, Dr. Genevieve had steered me into her car and went to speak with my principal. Next thing I knew Ms Lawrance informed me that they had received parent's approval to send me with Dr. Genevieve.
The only concerning thing was that they didn't tell me where she was taking me. And i couldn't exactly ask.
"Don't worry, we'll be there soon." She assured me and the rest of the ride was dead silent.
Soon we entered through large iron mechanical gates that enclosed a humongous plot of land They possibly passed through a whole forest before reaching a ginormous building. It wasn't tall, it was wide.
It had a sleek design, like how you would imagine a laboratory of some sort to look like. The walls were pure white, clearly well kept. It was covered in glass, everywhere. Where is wasn't white, it was a glass pane.
"Let's go." Dr. Genevieve motioned with her head and got out of the car. I couldn't do much but follow her.
She led me to a large glass door, larger than my school's. It slid open with a click. She walked briskly into the building, leaving me helpless but jog to keep up with her.
The inside was just a corridor. Just white walls. Nothing on them.
Wtf. Wtf. Is this where I die?
"Oh the interior designers. I asked for a school. Not a horror set." Dr. Genevieve joked, easing my racing heart.
I smiled, suppressing a nervous laugh.
As she led me further in, she left me in a empty room all by myself. The only furnishings was a black table and two chairs placed on opposite sides.
"Have a seat, I'll get you something to drink." Dr. Genevieve had instructed, but the seats made me feel strangely uneasy.
I looked at the ceiling, and sure enough there was a single, blinking camera facing directly toward the table.
It's just a security camera Ava. I chastised, just sit tf down.
"I'm back- Oh!" Dr Genevieve nearly bumped into me since I was still awkwardly standing near the door. "Come, don't be nervous Ava. I'm just going to explain what's happening."
Dr. Genevieve placed a cup of coffee and water on the table. She pulled out a chair for me and herself and motioned for me to join her at the black foldable table.
I cautiously sat pulling the chair in with a small squeak on the ground.
"Now Ava... I'm sure you are confused, aren't you."
I nodded my head slowly, unsure if what she was referring to. My sudden inability to speak? The building? Dr. Genevieve? The security camera?
"What you are going through is completely normal." Dr Genevieve pulled out a folder I hadn't noticed she was carrying before. "You are what we call, a gifted child. There are many like you."
A gifted child? Wasn't that the term they used for insanely smart people? I thought back to my last report card filled with Ds.
"Of course, they vary greatly in abilities. Some are gifted with intellect above that of a normal human. Others, can breathe fire or fly. It depends on the individual."
She opened the file and revealed a really rough outline of what I assumed was the building we were in. "This is a school built under the Government for children like you. We are relatively new, only about 3 years old. But I can assure you that the government provides us the best facilities to help your growth. Any questions?"
I was lost for words, not that it would have made a difference.
"Ah yes. Your speech is... comprised. We'll help you with that as well. I've already gotten parent approval for you to be sent here. Now there's a lot of things you need to learn. But," Dr. Genevieve frowned slightly at her watch. "It seems I am needed elsewhere. Mrs B will come and help you. You are in capable hands I assure you."
And then she was gone.
