Chapter 11- Nate's POV

Chapter 11

Nate’s POV

The couch sunk beneath me as I sat down. I watched the Simpsons that Amy had left on and munched away at my weetbix. After five minutes I started to feel a pair of eyes watching me. I slowly turned my head and gave a strained friendly smile to Jamie and J      who giggled and walked away.

A brick had just come down on Homer’s head when my phone started vibrating in my pocket. It was Jacob. Great.

“Hello?” I said.

“Nate! You gotta help me!” A panicked voice shouted through the line.

I sat up straight when I registered the fear in his voice.

“What’s going on Jacob?”

I waited for a few seconds and heard nothing but panting and the sound of something metal being knocked over.

“They’re after us!” He yelled and the sound burst my ears.

I stood up feeling sick. Jacob was in trouble.

“Who is? Where are you?!” I said frantically.

“The skate park! I’m hiding but I can’t keep dragging her around!” He said. What did he mean? It wasn’t making any sense.

“Who’s her? And why dragging?”

“They punched her! Knocked out…cold. She’s bleeding and I don’t know what to do Nate! They’re going to kill me! Help, what do I-“

I heard other yelling voices on the end of the line and running feet.

“Jacob! Jacob!” I yelled. All I got was silence.

I closed my phone and ran out into the kitchen.

“Jacob’s in danger! We have to get to the skate park! Now!” I nearly yelled at Mrs Cain.

“But Amy wouldn’t have left him in danger” Mrs Cain exclaimed rushing towards the car with me behind.

“Amy? Why would she-“ My voice dropped off. They punched her.

“She dropped Jacob off” Mrs Cain explained as we hopped in the car.

“They’ve hurt Amy” I said almost silently in shock.

Mrs Cain looked at me like I was a ghost and stepped on it. We raced through the light rain at lightning speed. Mrs Cain had never driven so fast in her life. I’m pretty sure she was going faster than some of the speeding lunatics at school.

As we pulled up at the skate park I leapt out of the car before it even stopped moving. Sprinting through the front gate the sky darkened and it was eerily quite. The skat park was built among large piles of trash. This was like a maze.

I ran forward and saw blood on the ground. Oh my god.

I ran through the piles of trash and could hear faint yelling.

“Get away from her!” I could hear Jacob’s faint voice and I ran towards it like I’d never run before.

There they were. Six guys and one of them, and older black haired one, was holding Amy in his arms. She had blood on her face and was completely limp. Jacob was yelling trying to get her back.

I stepped around the corner and the boys seemed to do a double take. All except for the older one.

“Look who showed up. Daddy come to take you home Jakey” He teased.

“Put her down now” I growled.

The boy smirked. “Fine” And with that he dropped her. She fell straight onto the concrete floor, sprawled unconscious.

I ran at him with my fist. “You Bast*rd!” I yelled. My right hook got him in the nose and he feel to the ground. He scrambled to his feet and ran off with his other friends, swearing under his breath.

I gently picked Amy up off the floor just as Mrs Cain arrived.

“Oh my god! AMY!” She ran forward shrieking.

“I’ve got her Mrs Cain” I said calmingly.

Jacob stumbled over clutching his gut. I’m guessing he got punched there.

We made our way back to the car. I lay Amy’s warm body on top of me and looked down at her bloody face. I stroked her cheek as if to comfort her.

“What happened?” I said to Jacob who was looking very pale.

“Amy dropped me off and I walked over to those guys. They had Alex with them. The older one. I’d never met him before. He made some joke about Amy being hot which I told him to knock it off. We got in an argument and he punched me. Amy ran over and tried to break it up, but it just added to the fire. I slapped him and then I knew I was in for it” Jacob sighed.

“Go on”

“Amy, she kind of went into that you know motherly mode. Well she jumped in front of me so Alec just decided to punch her instead”

“She dropped to the ground. I shoved Alex over and ran off with Amy. I managed to hide for a while then when I was on the phone to you they found us. Before you turned up they took Amy and threatened to kidnap her”

I looked down at Amy. We’d clean her up at home and she’d wake up in an hour or so. She’d be ok.

I hugged her close to me so worried she could have been hurt.

“She was real brave Jacob. She should definitely thank her” I told him. Jacob nodded his head looking real guilty.

I continued to stroke the side of Amy’s face, drawing on her face lightly.

“Nate” I heard my name almost a breath. I turned to Jacob and he was looking out the window.

I looked back down at Amy who was still unconscious. I continued to stroke her gently and heard it again with more volume.

“Nate” Amy’s voice ended in a sigh. My fingers froze and I looked down at her peaceful face.

She said my name.
