"Karl."
"Dream."
In the middle of a crowded hallway, the two shared a lasting intense stare down as others pass by, glancing at the two curiously.
"Me, you, outside." Dream whispers against Karl's ear, dragging the shorter by his magenta colored hoodie.
It was known that the two were polar opposites; Dream was the typical American football boy who became incredibly well-known around the school in a short period of time. Despite this, he was quite reserved, some might say shy. Karl, on the other hand, was a complete nerd who was infamous for his ugly multicolored clothing (popular opinion of the students) and extroverted behavior.
It was a cold, cold day in fall; nearly as cold as a winter's night, the heat inside the school brought most students inside for warmth. It was a good thing, really.
"God, right now?" Karl's body trembles, his layers of clothing weren't helping him against the cold temperature. "I'm about to be late for class, and it's oddly cold outside today."
"But babe, you know how impatient I am. I just want a kiss. Please?" Dream pleads, putting on an innocent puppy face that he knew drove Karl wild.
Karl lets out a complaint, groaning in annoyance. "You make me come out here for a kiss?" Dream wanted to reply, but was shortly cut off. "How much longer do we have to hide, Dream? I just want us to be a normal couple."
Their relationship was strained, mainly due to Dream being insecure of his sexuality; he holds high expectations for himself to be 'perfect' in other's eyes, and knowing how many gay jokes/remarks were being tossed around felt derogatory to him, and he wanted to keep his reputation in school.
It was originally planned that they'd reveal their relationship after the last season of football, but Dream shied away at the last moment. Thankfully, Karl still had patience then.
Karl wasn't mad or anything, he was just upset he couldn't publicly announce his love for Dream, because there were dozens of girls he had to deal with, rejecting them as they made moves on him.
He especially wasn't happy knowing that Dream had stupidly come up with the plan that he and Karl would become distant enemies. It was to "make it seem more convincing," in Dream's words. But why couldn't they just pretend to be friends? That would've been easier to deal with.
But Karl understood why Dream was doing it.
"I'm sorry Karl, I-"
"Stop apologizing, nimrod." Karl cupped Dream's cheeks in his soft hands, getting up on his tip-toes to press a chaste kiss on the taller's cheek. "We'll come out when you're ready, okay?"
"I just feel so selfish, though."
Rolling his eyes, Karl had to reassure him that he was still okay with hiding their relationship - it was a constant subject that was brought upon them once in a while.
"I love you, dork." Dream smiles, kissing Karl back.
And somewhere in the distance, the shutter of a camera clicked from behind.
