Flowers were delicate; it needed much attention otherwise it'll die, but taking time out of your day to give it proper care turns them into a beauty. Pick them apart, and they wither away in your hands. Gift them to someone special, and they'll swoon over your romantic gesture, depending on which breed you give.
That's what vibe Dream got just by seeing Karl-- someone who was gentle and/or fragile with the most prettiest appearance he's seen. Though he doesn't know the man too well, Karl had often visited his humble flower store once in a while; not enough to be called a regular, though. They only ever had small chit-chat, but it gave Dream enough time to take a liking to Karl.
It was a Thursday morning, and Dream had just opened up the store, making sure the flowers were still healthy for customers.
"Hey, Mr. Flower-guy." A familiar voice says from behind, stretching the word 'hey' extensively, and Dream didn't seem to mind the nickname Karl gave him. "What flower would you recommend giving to someone of interest?"
Dream thinks, imagining every flower that could possibly be a great gift for someone to their liking, "Romantically speaking, right?" Karl nods.
"Um, well, to be honest-- I'd give the person their favorite flower. There's too many flowers that have a romantic meaning behind it."
"Oh, okay." He looked a bit disappointed, anyone with basic social skills could understand that.
"You got someone special in mind?"
"Maybe, Maybe not." He vaguely replied, exiting out the shop without purchasing a single flower that day.

He never stopped visiting after that day, their conversations grow longer and longer with each passing day. Dream had no idea why Karl came back everyday, but he was just grateful that he could get to know him better.
He definitely was a flower, just like Dream had originally thought previously.

"Hello!" Karl greets, entering the store like it was his daily routine. Well, it technically was now. "Hey, Karl." Dream addresses his favorite customer, feeling comfortable around him; like a friend. It took Dream a second to realize that Karl had been holding something behind his back after boring his own eyes into Karl's, too distracted by his aesthetically gorgeous look.
But he didn't question it.
"I got you something.. It took me a while, so..." Karl wriggles in place, deeply blushing as his hand shook behind his back in excitement.
"Wait, don't show me yet, I have something of my own." He interjects, heading to the back of the store to retrieve something.
When he came back, he held a purple and white flower contained in a pot, which was wrapped with a purple ribbon. "It's for you." He fondly shows the flower to Karl, "It's an Iris xiphium, and I wanted to give you this as a memory of our friendship, I truly hope you cherish it as much as I do."
Karl gasped, astounded by the flower's colors and petals that formed into a unique pattern. "It's purple, too, your favorite." Dream adds after a moment of Karl not talking.
"You- I.." Karl was lost for words, too happy to properly form a sentence.
Then, Karl reveals a handmade bouquet of pink peonies from behind his back, "I-It took me a long time, I asked friends to help me."
"I looked up on google, and it apparently means romance, too." Karl's face heats up with blush, "You get what I'm saying, don't you?"
Dream says nothing; he knows what Karl was implying, just wanted to hear it for himself. It felt more authentic that way.
"I like you, do you think we can grab a cup of coffee down the street sometime?" Karl offers, still holding the bouquet in his hands that quivered in anxiety, fearing that he'd get rejected.
"Of course." He accepts, taking the bouquet and exchanging it with his gift for Karl. "I'd be happy to."
Karl beamed so brightly that day, almost as bright as the sun.
"Great! So, when's your shift over?"
