He had had a quiet life. Sure, his mother had cast him out at a young age, but it was good nonetheless. He was one of the few lamias that still existed in these forests and that was okay. It meant he didn't have to argue too much about his territory with others. At least there was enough food in this forest for a handful of lamias. There was only one intruder in his woods who kept coming no matter what he did.
Humans.
Humans and monsters alike had invaded the forests at first. At first he hadn't done anything about it, at least there was enough food and herbs in the woods at that time, which were equally useful for humans and monsters. And that was it in the beginning. At least until one of the people discovered his neighbor and apparently made a big issue out of it. His neighbor was a chain snake lamia with beautiful dark green scales, which were adorned with white circles. The bones were marked with a few small scars. All in all, the other lamia had always been a pleasant neighbor. Now and then they had mated, he hadn't minded. However, shortly after humans discovered his neighbor, more and more people came. They tried to catch the lamias living in the woods for various purposes, he did not really remember them.
Where there were initially minor territorial battles, these were no longer necessary after the start of the hunting season. Of the dozen lamias who inhabited these forests, only a few were left in the end. Since then it had become an unspoken rule to attack anyone who came into these forests.
For a long time he was able to defend his territory against people without really being seen by setting all kinds of traps for them. But he knew that he would not always be so undiscovered. He wasn't that lucky. And when it happened, he was delighted to see the frightened and frightened faces.
As an inland taipan, his tail reached a stately length of eight feet and his height reached well above most humans. Back when people faced him, his bones had rattled softly as a warning. Its scales glowed a bright purple and should act as a deterrent. Each pair of his arms was loosely held in a position where he could easily attack.
It had worked back then, but brought a lot more problems into his life. People seemed a bit fixated on trapping him now, which was definitely annoying as he had to change homes frequently thanks to them. But thanks to the goat monster family that lived on the edge of his territory, he has escaped people a few times. The little family was kind enough to let him stay with them from time to time, in exchange for which he would give them some of his prey.
Speaking of goat monsters. He had just been on his way to pay off his debts when he encountered a bunch of skeletal monsters lying close together in a clearing. Out of curiosity, he approached them. There seemed to be about six skeletons, none of them adult in any way. They appeared to be unconscious and magically exhausted, if the small amount of magic the pile was exuding was any indication. The smell of dust and blood came from them too. When he looked more closely, he also recognized the different numbers of wounds on the skeletons. He could just let them lay there - and leave them to their fate. But something told him not to leave these children.
He had just picked up four of the skeletons - one with a red scarf and one with a hole in the skull under his lower left arm, and a black and white skeleton, to which a skeleton with black fluid on it's cheeks was clinging on, under his lower right arm - when he noticed a unique smell from the black glitchy skeleton. It smelled of warm chocolate mixed with wool and an undertone he couldn't quite define. He hadn't smelled it straight away thanks to the purple coat, but the dark skeleton clearly gave off a heat smell, which made him growl angrily. The child wasn't even old enough to experience its first heat!
He had quickly taken the last two skeletons under his upper arm pair and made his way to Toriel. The goat monster knew more about healing magic than he did. While he was perfectly capable of treating the wounds, there was nothing he could do about the artificial heat. Plus, they're safer with Toriel. Hopefully the smell of blood and heat will not attract enemies there.
