"Look, I know this not how it was supposed to be , but we just have to accept this" Henry finally said breaking the silence. We have been here for an hour picking at our food. It's a good thing he kept the parents out of it, so we could talk it out ourselves, for once, like adults.
"I can't...hell knows I won't. I am not a thing Henry. I don't want this . I gave my job. My life . And you- you all- expect me to give it up all for a petty business deal ?" anger seems to like me nowadays. The words those followed were foreign and absurd to both, "let's have a deal." I jerked my chin up.
"A deal?"
"A deal, we accept this.. agreement. Our 'marriage', but after that, you go on your own way, I go on my own."
He raised an eyebrow "How are we gonna do that? I mean, let's say we leave for our 'honeymoon', we go on our separate ways from there. but at some point we got to come back"
"Do you have any job offers? outside this city?" I asked sipping on my water.
"One in Paris, for my -"
"Paris? Lord save me, I have my job there..." I almost face palmed myself when this amazing, wicked idea crossed my mind. "Henry Darling.." I cooed in a fake cute voice. The amusement in his eyes were undeniable "for our 'honeymoon', take me to the city of love will you? And then from there-"
"We go our own way" he finished off with a grin on his face.
"Perfect" I said masking my face into the perfect bitch one "come on , go ahead . I know they have sent you with a ring. Make it quick"
"How do you?- Nevermind" he cleared his throat as he out his hand out for me. I placed my left hand on his and prayed for this to end already. "Will you, Anna Grey, be my wife for a day and then help me get away with this wedding so I could have a life of my own?" his smirk mirrored my own and I was in relief that he felt the same way about this wedding as I said " I would love to, Henry"
He slid the ring on my finger and it took me a while to understand that it was a real one. Suddenly, I couldn't bear the weight of the delicate diamond ring on my left ring finger. I needed to get over with this as soon as possible.
"Go home and tell them the wedding should take place this weekend. I don't want to delay this anymore. My family will be more than happy to know the wedding will be this weekend and about the ring..." I scanned my whole left arm which felt like heavier than ever "... I want you to have this back after we land in Paris."
"You can keep this if you want to you know"
"I don't want to" I shook my head letting a heavy breathe out "this is pretty, this deserves to be on someone whom you will actually marry. I can't keep this"
He slowly got up to his feet mimicking my actions and put his right hand forward. I rose a brow at his action as I shook this hand.
"It's a deal then" he said professionally.
"A deal indeed" I gave him a stiff nod before heading out of the cafe.
Free. I was going to be free in a couple days. I couldn't stop the smile that appeared on my face at that thought. A life I always wanted to lead.
