Hermione was the small cafe she had built from scratch
The smell of warm coffee, baked goods and books infiltrated her nostrils but she loved it, a book of recipes was in front of her
She hummed to herself as she watched Scorpius eat a chocolate chip muffin with some tea, Hogwarts: a History laid in front of him, his eyes wide with wonder and excitement
She could only wait until he turned eleven and received his letter
Although it did break her heart that he would never be able to experience the wonders of Hogwarts, but she guessed that Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry or Whitestar Academy of Magic could also be a good school for him
Hermione looked at the clock and saw that it was close to opening time
"Scorp, book away" she ordered and he sighed dramatically — causing Hermione to roll her eyes — before closing the book and placing it in her purse, he grabbed one of his animal books and opened to the pages of Koalas — his favourite animals after Hermione took him to the zoo for his third birthday — and began swinging his legs as he took in the knowledge
He really was his mother's son
She went to the door and unlocked it before turning the sign to open
"Mummy, when will Grandma Cissy visit again?" Scorpius asked as he walked behind the counter
He reached for the cookies but Hermione slapped his hand away gently, he pouted and crossed his arms
He looked a lot like eleven year old Draco Malfoy in that moment
Hermione inhaled sharply and shook her head to try to push the memories of him away
"Scorpius" Hermione said, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow at him
He sighed and dropped his arms
"Just one?" He begged
"No, you already had a chocolate croissant" she told him
He sighed for the millionth time that morning and Hermione picked him up and put him on the counter
She pinched his nose playfully and he scrunched it
"We're going to London in a few weeks, you'll be able to spend more time with Grandma Cissy" she assured
He smiled brightly
"Will Crookshanks come with us?"
Hermione nodded
The bell ringed and Hermione saw Miriam Gonzales entering, she smiled and Hermione and Scorpius
"Hello Hermione, Hello Scorpius" she greeted
"Hello Miriam" Scorpius greeted
Miriam placed her things in her cubby
"I'm taking him to school, hold down the fort?" Hermione asked
Miriam nodded
Hermione grabbed Scorpius's backpack and got him off the counter
They walked out of the cafe and towards the school
"Mummy...why did you leave home?" Scorpius asked
Hermione exhaled shakily and looked at her son
"There were some problems...and I needed to get away" she told him
He looked up to her and gave her hand a small squeeze
"I like British Columbia" he told her "my favourite season is the snow"
"Winter darling, your favourite season is winter" she corrected gently
They reached the school and Hermione knelt down
"I'll come pick you up at two" she said
Scorpius nodded and kissed his mother's cheek
"Bye mummy!" He called out as he ran to his class
Hermione waved her hand before she walked away
Hermione entered the small flat she had rented, she threw the Daily Prophet at the wall and sobbed softly
She hated how she couldn't stop crying, she sat down on one of the chairs and held her abdomen
She glanced at the paper, the head line screamed at her
Draco Malfoy and Astoria Greengrass courting?!
She curled herself into a ball and rubbed her belly
"It's okay...we don't need him" she whispered to herself
She summoned her laptop and opened it
She couldn't continue living in London knowing that he was here, she began looking for places she could afford outside of London
A small apartment caught her eye
It was in B.C., Canada, far away from London and the Malfoy's, and it had a shop underneath it, she looked at the price and hit her lower lip
It would take some time to fix up but she started coming up with things that she could make off that shop
She clicked on the link and grabbed her landline and dialled the number
"Happy Life Realtors, Cassidy Richards speaking, how may I help you today?"
"Hello, my name is Hermione Jean Granger and I—"
She had moved away from London a month later and she hasn't looked back since
Hermione opened the door and saw Miriam hustling around the shop, serving costumers and fixing up tables
Hermione pulled her hair into a bun and put on her apron before walking to the counter and smiling at the costumer standing there
"Hello, welcome to Little Haven Cafe, how can I help you this fine day?" She asked them
All memories of London momentarily left her as she greeted costumers and worked in her shop
She loved the life she made for her and Scorpius, and she wasn't ready to give it up, no matter what happened when she went back home
