karl and talia had really good roommate dynamics.
when talia would wake up in the mornings, karl would already have breakfast made and have a plate waiting for her at the table. while karl streamed or was working on videos, she would take it upon herself to tidy up around the house.
"hello?" talia answered her phone. she was glad karl was calling because it gave her a mental break from answering emails.
"hi tal! are you busy?"
"not too bad, you need something?"
"yeah, i'm shooting with jimmy right now and i just realized i left my wallet there and i may need it. we're at the warehouse if you don't mind bringing it by." karl asked.
"sure. i'll be there in ten."
talia happily agreed. she loved getting to go see the mr. beast shoots, especially when she could just hang out behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera.
she quickly grabbed his wallet and drove to the location. when she pulled in, she saw a brand new lamborghini parked behind the building. she knew they were filming another 'would you rather' video, and this wasn't out of the ordinary for their contact, but it still always blew her away to see all of the money poured into these projects.
she quietly entered, as she could hear people yelling and assumed they were filming. as talia got closer, she could see jimmy, karl, and chris standing around a girl she didn't recognize. she was doing push ups and every time she did one, chris counted up a $100 amount. when talia entered she was at $2400.
"this is gonna take a while. chris, you stay here and keep counting. karl, let's go give away some more money." jimmy said as he and karl stepped away from the set and out of the tripods view.
"oh, hi talia!" jimmy said when he saw the smiling girl.
"hi, i came to bring karl his wallet." she said, handing it over to her best friend.
"do you wanna stay for a bit? i was talking to one of the subscribers that we brought in the green room and they were telling me that they are a big fan of yours. maybe you could meet them?" karl suggested.
"sure, i'll hang around."
karl informed her that it would be a bit before that person had their challenge, so she decided to just hang back and watch the whole process of making the video. her heart felt so full when she watched karl jump up and down just as giddy as the people winning the challenges. she loved hearing his laughter fill the space when something funny would happen.
"hey talia."
talia looked up to see chandler next to her, who extended an arm to pull her into a hug.
"hi chan." talia loved chandler. he was like the big brother that everyone needed.
"how are you doing? like, with the break up and all?"
"i'm alright," she started. "it's been difficult but karl has really taken care of me. i'm glad i have him."
they both looked up at the energetic boy who was trying to simultaneously celebrate the guy who just won $10,000 and console the girl who just lost $10,000.
"he's glad he has you too. we're all glad he has you," at that moment jimmy yelled for chandler to join them. "i've gotta go, but you should really start coming to shoots more often."
"i will." she reassured.
a few weeks ago, she couldn't of made that promise. she would have been scared that max would think she was cheating on him, since she was the only girl at the shoots. or she would be scared that he would feel that he wasn't getting enough attention.
but things were getting better.
it still hurt to imagine that he was seeing someone else on the weekends, and then sleep in the same bed as talia when monday rolled around. it hurts that while he was text talia that he loved her, he would be sending suggestive messages to someone else.
but she was finding herself again, and karl was helping her with it. she was having to reestablish what it meant to be talia, and not just max's girlfriend. she was so thankful for karl in this process. he was continually reminding her of all of the things she used to love to do before her relationship. she didn't realize how far she strayed from herself. she also noticed a common thread in all of the things she used to love that she had sadly abandoned: karl.
after the shoot was done, talia decided she wanted to apologize to karl for how bad of a friend she had been since getting into a relationship.
once karl had finished all of his shots and talia met the fan and got all of the pictures they wanted, they both agreed they were ready to leave. talia was thankful that karl had gotten a ride that morning, so karl was able to ride back with her.
"wanna drive?" she asked, extending her keys, which he took with a nod.
they both sat in silence for a bit. karl was reflecting on how well the day went and how many people's lives were changed with what they had won. talia was thinking of what she wanted to say.
"i'm sorry karl." that was a good start, but she really didn't know where to take it from there.
"what's that for?" he shot her a confused look before giving his attention back to the road.
"i don't know, i've just recently realized how awful of a friend i was to you when max and i were together. i did a lot of things wrong and you didn't deserve that."
"tally, you don't have to apologize to me. you didn't know- wait. who's at my house?"
as they pulled into the driveway they saw karl's car and one that neither of them recognized. the closer they got, they could see someone sitting on the porch steps, looking down at their phone.
"no freaking way!" karl yelled, jumping out of the car, catching on before talia could.
"what's up besties?"
talia gasp and ran to join karl in giving a hug when she recognized it was sapnap.
