I was silent as Jenny drove me to a coffee shop that me and my dad were meeting at. Talie sat beside me in the car, watching me worriedly.
"Tola, are you okay?" she asked in concern. I shrugged, not making eye contact.
Why is it that whenever I'm happy, something has to come along and ruin it? I don't want to talk that pathetic excuse for a father. He has no right to be here, to try and make amends.
Yet here I was, on my way to meeting him again after all these years.
Jenny pulled in front of the coffee shop, turning around in her seat. "Call me when you're done, okay? We'll be waiting." she said. I nodded, reaching for the door handle. "And Tola? I know that this is hard for you... but maybe try and listen to what he has to say, okay? There might be a different side of the story." she reasoned. I shrugged once more, getting out of the car without another word.
I entered the shop with my hands stuffed in my pockets and my body tense. Raking the seats with my gaze, I found him in the back corner table, looking on edge and anxious. Good, I hope he's panicking.
Tola's Dad's p.o.v.
I scanned the place nervously, feeling someone's eyes on me. I froze.
There she is. After all these years, she's only a few meters away from me. Her beautiful green eyes, so similar to her mother's, burned holes into me. Her anger was completely expected... I would be pissed too if I was in her position.
I wanted desperately to run up to her and hug her, but knew that I couldn't. Not yet. First, I have to explain myself to the best of my ability. So, with much restraint, I gave her a weak smile and waved her over.
Tola walk over stiffly, sitting across from me in a slouching position. "Why are you here." she asked, her question sounding more like an emotionless demand for the truth. I sipped my coffee carefully, contemplating what the best tactic would be to explain myself.
"To tell you everything, I guess." I answered honestly. If she still hates me afterwords, I will let her decide on what she wants to do. Tola snorted in reply, rolling her eyes.
"Fine, go ahead and try. Good luck trying to find something that you could say that could even possibly justify what you've done." she snapped. I nodded, understanding why she was acting this way. I would hate myself too. Hell, I DO hate myself to for what I've done to her.
"First of all, I am very sorry for what has happened to your mother. I know--"
"Stop." she interrupted. Her eyes held fiery anger, daring me to defy her. When she knew that I was going to obey her, she continued.
