here i am. in the middle of another typical high school party. the loud music resonates in my ears as i stiffle uncomfortably in my seat. schoolmates dancing around me with different partners, i felt like an outcast being there. it's not like i have no friends, i'd say i have a decent amount of acquaintances. i mean, that is the only reason i'm at the party. i'm kind of the chaperone of my friend group, making sure none of them get wasted at these type of parties. "i'll just take a bathroom break" i thought to myself, standing up from my previous setting.

as i try to look for the nearest bathroom to relief myself, i felt my whole body falling towards the ground with a 'thud' following behind. "ouch!" i grunted, feeling the pain from my behind. i look up to see a tall, intimidating figure standing before me. unable to make out the face, i see a hand stick out, gesturing me to accept the help offered. i visibly frown and took their hand, balancing myself back on feet. as i got back to the usual height i'm used to, i finally made out the face of the figure i bumped into. just my luck, it's the one and only yu zeyu.

"hey i'm so sorry, are you okay?" he asked with a polite tone. before answering, i look up to meet his eyes. no wonder he is named one of the good looking males of our school. he is pretty attractive. i mean, after all, he is part of the group of boys many girls swoon for. i smiled before replying. "yes i'm totally fine, sorry for bumping into you. it's all me." was that too nice? do i seem desperate? thoughts start run through my head, regretting my earlier choice of words. i mentally face palmed myself. he was about to say something when school's most attractive girl, zi ying, shows up from behind him. "zeyu, where did you go? the other boys are looking for you..." she trailed off after noticing my presence. "oh hey y/n! what brings you here?" she asked with a sweet smile plastered on her face. gosh she's pretty. i really wished that i was her friend.

feeling overwhelmed from her presence, i quickly returned a smile before running away from the scene. really bad decision of mine but it'll do. i continue to make my way to the bathroom, brushing off the awkward episode that just occurred.

"zeyu are you okay?" i was burst out of my bubble of thoughts when zi ying spoke. "oh yeah, just that the girl dropped her phone. i was about to return it but she ran away." i replied, dumbfounded. "oh, that's
y/n. i hear from her friends that she's always like that." zi ying replied, allowing me to understand the situation better. "alright, i'll just return it when i see her again." i sighed, placing the now cracked-screen phone into my back pocket.

it's starting to get a little late. people are starting to leave and i can't seem to find any of my friends around the venue. with no hope that any of them are still here, i decided to leave. "i'll just call a ride home." i say to myself, trying to scavenge for my phone from my sling pouch. "where is it?" i thought, slowly starting to panic. after a good five minutes of trying to find my mobile, i accepted the fact that i have probably lost it and some other schoolmate mistook it for their own. "i guess i'm walking" i sighed. i'm not the biggest fan of walking but i don't really have a choice right now.

before i started my journey back home, i decided to stop by a nearby convenience store. as i walk into the store, the smell of fresh bread hit me almost immediately. i smiled at the cashier before trying to look for a decent midnight snack. i was looking for snacks at a different aisle when i hear the store door open again. i brush it off, thinking it was just another kid. as i walked nearer to the back of the aisle, i made eye contact with a middle aged man. he was staring dead at me, not taking his eyes of me. i start to feel a little uncomfortable before moving to a different spot in the store. he continued to follow me.

at this point, i'm panicking. i have never encountered something like this before. as i start to quicken my steps, i felt a strong arm slide behind me and around my waist. i gasp, looking up from the floor. i shot my head up, only to find myself facing the familar eyes again. zeyu. he smiles before pulling me in closer. "just play along. he's still watching." he whispers to me, walking me towards the cashier. gosh, you don't know how relived i felt knowing it was someone i came across before.

after managing to pay for my snacks, zeyu walks me put of the store, hands still around me. as we got further from the store, he lets go and turns to look at me. "are you alright? did he make you feel uncomfortable?" he asked with a heartwarming tone. i nodded, repsonding to his earlier question. "how did you know i was here?" i ask, continuing to walk in front of him. "i was hoping to get a drink from the store and i saw your encounter with the man. i was a lot of help, wasn't i?" he joked, lightening up the mood. i stifled a small laugh before replying, "yea. thank you so much. i'll go home now. thank you again," i was about to turn around when he stopped me from doing so.

"don't. it's not safe. let me walk you home. just for tonight?" he asks. pausing to think, i eventually agreed. a cute smile was visibly shown on his face before he jumped to beside me. "let's go then!" he said with full blast of enthusiasm.

it was a quiet walk to her house. she seemed like she didn't want to interact which i totally respect. as long as i'm here to keep her safe. i really wonder what would have happened if i wasn't at the scene earlier. brushing away my thoughts, i noticed that her walking came to a stop. she looked up to me again, the moon reflecting on her glossy eyes. i smiled. "well, we're here now. thank you for walking me home. you have been a lot of help tonight." she says, thanking me again.

"no problem, it's what anyone would do. if you ever need anything, i'm here." i reply, making her smile. she was about to walk through the gate when i suddenly remembered, her phone was with me! "hey!" i stopped her once again. she turns to look at me, probably annoyed at how many times i have called her. "i forgot this." i say, pulling out her phone from my back pocket and handing it to her. "oh my gosh! my phone! thank you so much! you are seriously a lifesaver." she gasped excitedly.

"don't worry about it. it's partially my fault this happened to you. tonight's experiences were merely a coincidence. goodnight, y/n."
