Hi there!

Yes, I'm talking to you with the awesome hair! Thank you so much for reading! And we actually made it to chapter three (with me, this never happens)! I want you to know that it means so much to me that you read my story! This one goes to my besterest friend, who is not at all crazy (You get it, right Darkx?) and to my cousins, A. & N. You really provided inspiration for these characters. Thanks.

And uhh now I have to get back- oh yeah! Hope you enjoy! Don't forget to like/upvote if you did! Why am I still rambling? I should've learned to stop last chapter- Well enjoy! Comment who you think it is so far. Onto the chapter!

Love,

V.

When they arrived back inside the library, most of the people had left. Jacob asked the remaining ones to leave so that Madeline could interview Jane.

"Would you like me to leave as well," asked Jacob.

"I'd prefer to interview each client privately, Lord Kingwell," Madeline said.

"Whatever you prefer," said Jacob and left the room.

"Now," said Madeline, turning to Jane, who was sitting on an enormous armchair, "I'm going to ask you some questions about events yesterday. If you don't feel comfortable answering them, you do not have to. I understand that you're going through a difficult time."

Jane reached to get a tissue from a tissue box. She blew her nose into it. After several deep breaths she said, "I'm ready."

Madeline pulled out a notepad. "Alright, now, could you tell me the names of everyone who was at the mansion last night before the party."

Jane looked up thoughtfully. "I was there, along with my husband, son, and d-daughters," she sniffed on the word daughters. "Then there was Kate, the children's maid, and Kayla, my maid. We hired a man, Tim Ran, to do the ice sculptures, but he came and left. And the guests from each state."

Madeline nodded. "All right," she said, "And did you interact with your daughter Elise, at all at the party?"

"Yes," replied Jane."

"Could you please tell me what you saw?" asked Madeline in a calming voice.

Jane inhaled deeply. "All right."

To be noted: Most of the following scene is what was told from Jane Kingwell to Madeline Hawksworth. However, I chose to put it into third-person, as it fits so much better, and there is a bit too much detail to make it seem like she's saying it. Enjoy!

"Kayla!" screamed Jane Kingwell at the top of her lungs, "Get ready!

"Coming ma'am," Kayla shouted back running upstairs.

Jane rushed upstairs to go and check on her children.

Analise had wiped her tears and was sitting in the far left corner of the couch glaring bitterly at her siblings, who were glaring back quite well themselves.

Jane handed them each a mask. "Save these for the ball; it's in an hour."

"Sure mum," said Stephan, who was trying on his parrot mask.

"Come on, then! Let's go greet the guests," she said.
And the four of them proceeded down the stairs into the entrance hall, where they joined their father.

Taking one last look into the mirror, Jane pushed open the enormous front doors and stepped outside.

The first family to arrive were the Onikers, from the first state. Owen Oniker was a short, plump man and leader of the first state. He owned a clothing company that was a close competitor of Lord Kingwell's. Therefore, the men disagreed on most things, even the silliest of matters.
