Daiya had loved horses. She loved riding on the grounds of her estate when she was a girl. But it all stopped when Theo died. It had been horses that led to his death. He had always told her to forgive them. She wondered why she couldn't, thinking back on it.
She had always been so furious, it boiled inside her, how DARE the Kingwells invite her back to her own land to a party. But he reminded her that there was peace now, there was no need for hating them. She never listened. When he died, part of her wanted to die too.
Then she reminded herself that he wanted to keep peace. Theo didn't want her to keep hating and being rude. Her children needed her. The sixth state needed her. She decided to forgive. She would attend the ball. For Theo. For peace.
But horses, they'd never be the same. Her stomach churned as she stepped out of the carriage. Hopefully her children would remember to wave politely. She couldn't ever forgive herself for all the hate she put into them. She hoped that they would though.
She walked inside. From the corner of her eye, she could see the expression on Jane's face. She had frowned. Maybe some things would take time. She was directed inside by a young woman with big blonde hair.
She couldn't help noticing that the room was very small. She turned to her trunk to dress; she had specifically had an owl dress made. But the trunk had already been opened! And the dress was gone! She gasped and wondered who would do such a thing. Then she wondered how she could've been so naive! Jane had set her up! She had given orders against her. What should she do? Complain? No. She would act like the dress was gone purposely, act like she hadn't made her mad.
She was here for peace. And she wouldn't start a fight.

"I'm truly sorry for your loss, Miss Spindleweary," said Madeline, "But I have a final question."
"I really must insist that we leave," said Kayla, "She is a mur-"
"Fire away," said Daiya, ignoring her.
"Who pulled your trunk to your room?" she asked, but she already knew the answer.
"WE REALLY MUST LEAVE," Kayla's voice boomed, but she couldn't muffle out the one name that Daiya said, an expression of shock on her face.
"Kayla."
