"WHAT?!" gasped Jane, "Who?"

"It was Daiya Dritwice-Spindleweary. Think about it, woman," said Bullstock.

"She never came before, and suddenly, the day she comes, your daughter is dead. She wants her revenge for the stealing of her family's land."

Madeline rubbed her freckled nose in frustration. "But there's no evidence!" She knew Bullstock from a previous case involving a coriander allergy and pepper.

Bullstock's throat bulged, and he looked like a frog. "Motive is enough proof!" he shouted.

"That's a fool's logic!" she growled, but Jane was nodding enthusiastically.

"Yes!" shouted Jane, "I knew Daiya was suspicious! She wanted to make us pay!"

"Lady Jane... You can't arrest-" began Madeline, but Jane wasn't listening.

"We must go after her! Your work is no longer needed, Madeline Hawksworth," Jane exclaimed, barely making any sense, and with that, she jumped up, grabbed Bullstock's hand, and left the room along with everyone else.

Madeline was sure that Jane was usually a focused woman, and believed that because her daughter had died she was looking for some sort of closure.

Apart from that she had other things to worry about. Who had hired Bullstock?

A small voice came from the corner of the room. Stephan had stayed behind. "Miss Hawksworth," he said, "Do you mind?"

"No," she said.

"I don't believe that it was Lady Daiya. Not yet, at least. I'm here to rehire you. I want you to track down the real person who killed my sister," he said defiantly. He was short, but Madeline could see the confidence in his eyes.

"I accept the job," she said, "We need to go interview as many people as we can. Let's start with Daiya."

"If you need any help, I'd be glad to provide it," he said respectfully.

"Did you see your sister last night?," she asked.

"Only once; she was getting food. She looked angry. I was mostly talking to Margaret Kamp about admission in the art school," said Stephan.

"I'd like you to come with me," she said.

They tried to talk with her, but Martin and Martina said that she was being heavily interrogated, and that they couldn't speak with her.

"All right then," she said

They walked down the hall and knocked on the first door. It was opened to reveal Martha Cridel.

"What are you doing here," she croaked. She was wearing a black dress and had a tight bun in her hair. She looked like she had a stomach ache.

"Mrs.Cridel, I understand that you are the aunt of Elise Kingwell. I have a few questions for you about what you saw last night," asked Madeline.
