You had begged your sister not to throw this party. Maybe begged was too light of a term to describe what you did to avoid this party. You pleaded, negotiated, and even resorted to bribery just so that your sister wouldn't throw this party.

And yet, here you were: throwing on a new dress minutes before you had to greet your guests.

You sighed quietly as you slipped your shoes on, careful not to slip as you stood up to see yourself in the mirror.

You smiled to yourself. Though the dress was a bit too short for your liking, it was still a pretty magenta color and it complimented your hair well. Your sister had forced you to buy it for this party specifically.

You were the field hockey captain at your local high school and your team had recently qualified for states. While you claimed that it was the joint effort of the whole team, your older sister insisted that a party be thrown in your honor nonetheless.

It didn't seem to be a big deal, but as you descended the stairs you realized the sheer number of people who seemed to appreciate your efforts this past season.

You smiled at all of the familiar faces, particularly at those from other people on the team.

Almost everyone seemed to recognize you as you walked to the kitchen, and you were eager to try the refreshments your sister put out.

Your eyes scanned the faces of your teammates and classmates, each greeting you with a smile.

That is, until your gaze landed upon a face you hadn't seen before.

God, was this guy attractive.

His eyes were dark green, almost black. Maybe that was just because of how dilated his pupils were. His cheeks were lightly dusted with freckles and his blonde hair was so effortlessly styled. It framed his face perfectly.

Eventually this mystery man looked up from his cup and noticed that you were staring at him. Ashamed, you turned away quickly, blush painting your features.

Out of the corner of your eye, you could just barely make out a smirk on his face. He started walking over to you.

You turned around to face him completely and he nodded at you, extending his hand. "Name's Clay, and I'm assuming you're y/n?"

You nodded, your heart racing at the fact that Clay knew who you were.

"I've never seen you at school, are you knew?"

Clay chuckled and shook his head. "No, I go to SBI prep. It's a couple miles from here."

Your eyes lit up with recognition and realization upon hearing where Clay went to school. SBI prep were your rivals, the team you had defeated to get to states.

You didn't know how to react, so you just smiled at him apologetically. "Well then. In that case, I'm sorry about what happened at qualifiers."

Clay shook his head. "It's nothing, really. I'd be more upset if you guys weren't so good. We kind of expected a loss anyway."

You smiled at the compliment, simultaneously trying to deflect it and thank him.

Clay leaned closer to you, tilting his head so that you felt his hot breath fan across your neck. He lowered his voice to a whisper.

"What I didn't expect though, was my rival school's captain to be so beautiful."

You felt your face grow hot and you were almost sure that the scarlet blush you were sporting had crept down to your neck.

"Thanks, you too."

You hated yourself for that response. "Thanks, you too", really?

"Yeah, I noticed you staring earlier."

Clay smiled at you and you noticed that he had dimples. He really was attractive. He rested his hand on your shoulder.

"Now, what do you say we go upstairs and get this pretty little dress off of you?"
