The Americans have now discovered the existence of the Necrons. Through UAVs. They desperately tried to bomb the hell out of them before they got to Bernard Hill. But the Necrons just reformed and join back to the formations. Realizing that this situation is hopeless, the General ordered a retreat and destroy the Gate.
Ancient Eldar Webway Gate Somewhere by Bernard Hill

A lone Eldar Farseer steps out of the Webway. She looks at the massive Necron army marching through the countryside. Suddenly, a primitive flying machine boomed overhead. And She watches as the primitive contraption flew by and releases its payload.
Its payload exploded amongst the ranks of the Necrons. Although it had almost no effect on them at all. Since they just reformed and continued marching.
The Farseer decided to go back to her base and form a strike force as quickly as she can.
Bernard Hill
The Americans rained down Artillery on the approaching Necrons. And up the bombing, as they got closer.
The Necron Monolith's guns opened fire at the primitive American defenses. Their guns pinged off the Necrons. Their Tanks simply flung them through the air and into the ground. It seemed that nothing will stop this army.
The Necrons had already broken through the defenses and are now advancing on the Gate itself.
Soldiers dropped like flies. Their armor was nearly useless as the barrage of guns shredded through the Americans.
But they had somehow escaped.
Fort Bragg
"Are you ready to blow the charges? Asked The General.
"Yes sir."
"Good, now, do it."
He pressed the trigger on his C4. Detonating it and shrouding the Gate with smoke. But as it cleared, the Gate was fully intact.
"God damn magic! The General said as he threw down his canteen.
But then the Necrons emerged from the Gate.
The Earth is lost.
