Chapter 9: Finals Week

[School Bell Rings]

The halls are crowded. Students are buying quick snacks and energy drinks. In the lunchroom, tables are setup with teachers all present passing out scantrons, supplies, and notebooks. Some students are studying for a final time. Others are making sure they have all their assignments, late work, or extra credit present. Miguel is hiding in the crowd. What looks like a human sized cocoon, vines its way in view behind the lunchrooms back windows. The cocoon opens up slightly revealing eyes.

"take care bro." says a familiar voice.

The cocoon closes up and vines its way back up. It forms arms and legs and jumps from the top of the school to a large grassy area. Erich comes from out of no where.

"Leaving so soon Miguel." he says softly.

"I thought this would be a good disguise." says Miguel.

"CG and myself were able to recognize it was you man. You can't hide from us." Erich says chuckling.

Since it was pointless to hide himself, he unravels the vines around him. They pile up around him. Erich lays out his hand.

"Want to see if we still got it?" he says softly.

Miguel lays out his hand and they both do their groups handshake.

"Till our paths cross again friend." says Miguel as the wind blows his hair in the wind.

"We will see each other again. Don't worry. Please be safe."

The floor opens and Miguel falls in.

[Low Rumbles]

The noise fades and only the wind and leaves are heard. He walks back inside the school and gathers his work.

[Bell Rings]

"Alrighty students that is the starting bell for your finals. Start heading to your first period classes and good luck on your tests." says the principle on the intercom.

All students are walking into their classes. They take their seats. Scantrons are laid out on their tables. Students get up to turn in their assignments in designated boxes. Boxes are labeled 'Assignments Due', 'Tardy', and 'Extra Credit'. Teachers pass out their tests. Some students are confident, others a sleep and others nervous. The tension is serious and everyone is now focus and prepared.

"Tear the seal, with your pencil, on the side of your test labeled seal" says the teachers.

All students follow the demand.

"Now turn the page and sign your name and date"

Students complete the demand.

"Turn the page again and print your name at the top right corner labeled 'Name:'."

All students await their next task.

"You may now begin. You will have all class period to finish the test. Take your time and carefully fill out each bubble. If you finish early, bring up your final and place it face down on this desk. You will then report to the Auditorium for further instructions."

Each teacher pushes a timer for their students to start. Number two pencils immediately start writing quickly with haste. The tension has increased. Erich a long with a few other students finish early. In the Auditorium about thirty students are sitting. Some are studying some more while others are on their phones. The Vice Principal, a tall bronze woman, walks across the stage. A few more teachers stand on the left side, facing the audience

"Students, congratulations on finishing early. All of you will be proceeding on to your next class finals. Mr. Sims, Mrs. Blonksy, and Ms. Jones will calling your names. You will go to the teacher that has the first letter of your last name. Make sure you have your ID's."
