true love comes from more than just the heart

the beginning of it all (prologue )

My name is Ellie patterson. The night of my boyfriend's death absolutely wrecked me. He was my best friend, my biggest supporter, and most importantly the most important person in my life. His name was luke. He was so sweet and kind and the most amazing person I've ever met. I didn't have many people in my life. When I was little my dad became an alcoholic and left me and my mom. I still remember the way she looked at me with hatred in her eyes. She said it was my fault that he left. She said I caused to much trouble and wasn't good enough so he left. Shortly after his leaving my mom abused me. I was so young and innocent I couldn't stand up for myself. Later in life , I was probably in first or second grade, my teacher saw some bruises and told the child protective services. My mom was found not guilty of abuse though. I had a living hell every single day. Especially since 7th grade. I used to be bullied and beaten so much. I started to believe the things everyone said about me. I became depressed and self harmed . I felt like it was the only way to deal with my feelings. Then I met luke in sophomore year of high school. At first we were just friends. He made me feel wanted and cared for. He stood up for me against the bullies . I instantly fell in love with him. Then junior year we started officially dating. My life became so much better. We were planning on graduating then moving in together . One night , luke was driving me home even though he hated me living in that environment and a drunk driver hit into our car and we swerved off the road. I survived and he died. It should have been me. Afterwards I became extremely depressed and felt so alone. But I knew luke would want me to try and be happy so I did but it never worked. That's basically my life story .
