I decided not to just kill this story. For those of you that actually liked this story, I'm going to speed up to the ending that I always had planned. Hope you like it. There will be an epilogue. Also it's been a while since I wrote on this, I hope it sounds natural.
Onex and Halo sat off from the rest of the pack, both watching in an awkward silence. "It's good that Moon's awake. I'm so sorry about my sister.." Halo said quietly.
Onex sighed. "Stop blaming yourself. You had nothing to do with it."
Halo smiled weakly at him. "You're so nice to me." She nuzzled him, making him blush under his fur. "Have you ever wanted a mate?" She asked curiously, eyeing him in a flirtatious way. Back when she was human she had been a bit permiscuous, so she wasn't shy about those matters.
Onex on the otherhand.."Um, uh, I don't, er, know if an omega can have a mate." He whimpered truthfully.
Halo smirked. She stood and walked in front of him, running her tail under his chin. "Do you like me?" She whispered in his ear.
Onex nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat.
Halo's eyes glowed. "Let's make our own pack! We can start anew! We will be the alphas!"
Onex's jaw dropped. He shut it resolutely. "Let's do it." He said, unable to believe what he was saying. He had grown up in this pack, but he lo-really liked Halo. And the smile on her face was to precious to leave. Let's do it. He told himself.
With Onex at her side, Halo proudly ran up to Jade. "We are leaving this pack." She stated firmly.
Jade was a little taken aback, but he didn't show it. "Fine. Leave. Now." He turned his back on the two omegas. He couldn't believe that they were leaving the pack, leaving him.
Onex blinked. He thought it would be harder than that. He shrugged, and with Halo at his side they ran away from the only wolves he had ever known.
~A few days later~
Moon laid quietly under the shade of a tree, thinking to herself. Jade had become increasingly agitated and rude. What was up with him. She saw how he was with puppies, and didn't want her pups going through that. Jade forced any pup who would listen into responsibility to early. Holiday's pups--excluding River-- were only yearlings, and they already acted like full grown pack members.
She wanted to leave. She had time to find a new home before her puppies came, but she didn't know how to approach Donny about it. This was his home. Moon also had a reservation or two, she and Holiday had been friends forever. But Holiday had her growing family now, and the two usually had different things to do.
Moon stood, determined that she would bring it up to Donny today. "Donny?" She called sweetly. She didn't want to upset him, he was the best wolf she had ever met. He was good hearted, smart, and had a great sense of humor. She would not pick any other to be the father of her pups.
Donny trotted up to her, tail wagging. "Yes my princess?"
"Well, you know how I feel about Jade right?"
Donny nodded, not sure where this was going.
"Well, do you think that we could leave the pack, go start our own while I can still travel well?" She said it as gently as she could.
Donny sighed. His best friend in the pack, besides Moon, had been Onex, and he had left as well. "I...I guess." He looked into her eyes. This was what she wanted, and he would die to please her.
Moon smiled and nuzzled him. "Thank you." She whispered in his ear. With that she trotted away to tell Holiday.
"Holiday?" She called, ducking into the den, where she usually could be found. She heard a mumbled reply and as her eyes adjusted she saw the dark form of her friend waking up.
"What's up?" The chocolate wolf called, propping herself up onto her hindquarters.
There was a heartbeat of silence, and then a sigh. "Donny and I are leaving the pack. I can't stand the thought of Jade around my pups, and your family needs their space."
Holiday looked down. She sensed there would be no convincing her out of this one. "I understand. I'm going to miss you." She embraced her.
A few hours later Moon addressed the pack--now reduced to Jade, Erek, Holiday, and the three yearlings-- as a whole.
Jade turned away. She was leaving. She hadn't said it was because of him but he had guessed it. He would miss her presence. As they started to leave he approached the couple. "We will miss you." He nodded curtly to them and turned away.
Moon watched him go, but then she turned and they headed to start there new life.
~One week later at dusk~
Jade approached Erek. "Erek, my old friend,"
The large black wolf looked up at the grey alphas somber face. "What is it?" He asked worriedly.
"You are a strong wolf Erek, and I know you will lead your family well." He began.
"Jade..."
"I'm leaving. You can't stop it. I will be fine, I have...responsibilities elsewhere."
Erek sighed. "Goodbye."
Jade turned and trotted away, his sillouhette all they could see. Holiday joined Erek and they both gasped as their former alphas form shifted from lupine, to that of a teenage boy with dark hair and oddly luminescent green eyes.
