プロローグ

Prologue

They were seven best friends, they had known each other since their kindergarten days, and never once had they been separated

They had an unbreakable bond

Maybe some of them were more than just friends

But relationship or not, above all they were still

Best Friends

Forever

"LET'S GO TO THE PLAYGROUND" Chenle screamed in excitement, the others chuckled at his antics but followed him nonetheless

"DO YOU GUYS DARE ME TO EAT SAND" Donghyuck yelled

"EW NO, WHY DO YOU WANT US TOO" Jeno yelled back, disgust written all over his face as he stared at the tanned male who was already grabbing a handful of sand

"Hyuck, that's not sanitary and absolutely gross" Jaemin deadpanned grabbing his hand and making all the sand fall back down. Donghyuck tried not to blush as Jaemin kept their hands interlocked, while the others began teasing them

"look at the lovebirds" Mark sang in a teasing tone, causing both of them to release their hands and look away, making the oldest laugh at their awkwardness

"shut up hyung, you and Jeno aren't any better" Donghyuck fired back, and now it was the Canadian's turn to blush, while Jeno just looked down, cheeks heating up

All the teasing was put to a stop when Jisung ran to Jeno and tapped him on the shoulder shouting "tag you're it!" before running away along with the others who began screaming

As the other six began running around the playground like little kids, Renjun sat on a bench and watched them

Unlike his six outgoing friends, Renjun was the quiet and introverted one. He'd always watch his friends rather than join in, occasionally he'd participate (especially if the others begged him to) but he preferred to watch most of the time, which the others didn't mind knowing his shy nature

The Chinese smiled watching his best friends running around

so careless

so happy

so free

he wanted to be free

but...

"Jun hyung come play with us!" Jisung shouted noticing his hyung looking sad for some reason, the latter only shook his head 'no' indicating that he was fine just sitting, but Jisung and the others had different plans

"Come on Jun, let's go!" Jaemin shouted excitedly as he grabbed Renjun's hand and started sprinting past the playground and deeper into the forest area that was located nearby, the others running behind them with just as much enthusiasm

Renjun who was caught off guard, just let Jaemin drag him to a spot they all knew all too well; their secret base

They had found it one day, after kicking the ball too far during a game of soccer. They had noticed the little wooden cabin hidden by a bunch of trees and bushes. It didn't take long for them to start cleaning it out and begin making it a secret space where they could be able to hang out in after school or during weekends
