Sunlight was something Scarlet absolutely adored. She loved how the sunlight tickled her skin like a caress on the cheek. Or how the sun seemed to fill every part of her soul that was hidden away from the light.

It reminded her times where life was simple and she didn't have to worry about bruises on her skin or fractures of her heart.

And so she relished in the sun that was peaking through the blinds as she hugged her pillow tighter with blissful peace.

Peace that was disrupted almost moments later when she heard keys jingle and the door unlocked before the most terrifying shout sounded through her house.

"Scarlet! If you're not up before I step foot in this house, I will drag your sleeping ass from your bed to the academy on foot!"

Scarlet's eyes shot open as she froze for a millisecond before she bolted off the couch. Her eyes widened hearing her best friend Cora's voice as she scrambled to sit up, causing her to fall off the couch and on the hard wooden floor.

"Shit, ow" She cursed, feeling the sting from her crash before Scarlet let out a grunt and sat up.

She slowly looked over to Cora who was giving her the scariest glare she had ever seen.

Scarlet pressed her hands together like she was praying before giving Cora her best pleading eyes and saying, "Give me two minutes." As she quickly got up and started running up the stairs.

Cora staggered with her words in protest before giving a big sigh and crashing down on the couch with defeat.

Scarlet almost danced with victory as she bit her lip to stop her smile before quickly changing out her pajamas and into her academy outfit.

She brushed her teeth vigorously before deciding to just let her hair cascade down her back since she was lacking time.

Running back down the stairs, she noticed Cora was leaning her arm on the table, holding a bakery bag and a strap purse hanging on her shoulder. When she saw Scarlet, she did a little jump off the counter stool and said, rolling her eyes in the process, "My mom's baked your favorite strawberry vanilla bread with the little frosting on top. There is also makeup in my purse in case you need it."
