As I went towards the doors of Lake Valley High School I knew exactly what awaited me on the other side. What awaited me wasn't visible, even with the full moon illuminating everything.

I took a deep breath and opened the door. No one was there. Guess I was wrong, nothing was waiting for me.

"You shouldn't be here, Elizabeth." said a voice from behind me.

I whirled around. Why hadn't I expected him? "It's night, John, I can be out. You know very well I can."

"You know what I meant." he said. "You just have to make it a lot harder don't you?"

He runs a hand through his short spikedblack hair. His clothes are the same as they always are, dark shirt and jeans. He looked to be perfectly fine. Like the last time I had seen him.

"Well you hadn't come to visit me in a while. It was getting lonely." I said. "Plus gossip has gotten around quickly enough. You have a girlfriend."

I carefully avoided his gaze after I said that.

"No, I don't." he said.

I looked up confused. "What do you mean? It was all over that....oh what do you call it.......fackbail?"

He chuckles. "Facebook? Yes, everyone was wondering why I kept ditching them. Instantly they assumed it was because I had a secret girlfriend."

"And?"

"And I couldn't let them know the truth." he told me.

"I know you couldn't tell them the truth. No one would believe you." I said. "Not everyone is like me."

"Sometimes that's a good thing." he said.

"What exactly is that supposed to mean?"I asked him.

"There are too many vampires in the world as it is. You are good. But typically your kind isn't." he reminded me.

"Oh." I sighed. "Well it's not like your kind isn't bad too."

"It's slayers job to kill."

"Well it's my job to do it too. I just don't take joy in it like some people do." I growled.

He is a slayer. His job is to kill vampires. I am a vampire. My job is to kill humans or animals for blood. John took joy in slaying. It was what he was created for. I was created too, unlike him I hated my job. The thought of death would creap over me as a moth to a flame. The thought of it horrified me. I would rather spend eternity of torture in hell than have to kill. Which oddly enough is my punishment if I do.

So instead of killing I go to the butcher and steal blood from an animal that has already been killed. It suffices enough to keep my thirst quenched.

"You never told me the exact reason that you are here." he said, changing the subject.

"I came to make sure you were alive." I said.

"Well I am."

"Of course you are." I rolled my eyes. "It's just some commotion I heard going on that made me wonder if you were or not."

"What commotion?" he asks, one eye brow raised.

"Didn't you hear the vampire screams last night?" I asked him. "I thought you were behind that."

He shakes his head. "I didn't hear them. Besides, I was visiting my cousin three counties over last night."

"So what made the vampires scream?" I asked.

He opens a hidden door that rested in the wall. He pulled out a couple of weapons. "I don't know but I'm about to find out."

**An hour later**

We patrolled through several different areas. Nothing. Everything seemed to be quiet tonight.

"Are you sure that you hear something?" he asks me to be certain.

"I know a vampire scream from any where, John. You know that as well as I do." I said.

"Of course." he nodded..

Just then we heard a scream. A piercing scream that sent chills down your back. The scream of a vampire.

We took off running in that direction. We got there just in time to see a sandy blonde girl stake a vampire.

She turned towards us. She looked at John quickly. Then saw me. Instantly she knew what I was and lunged towards me. John blocked her off.

"Leave her alone." he said.

"She just wants to use you as a toy." she snapped. "I wouldn't protect her."

"He knows exactly what I am." I seethed. "And I would appreciate it if you didn't lunge at me like that. This is my favorite dress." I smoothed the white dress down.

"Well sorry." she said sarcastically. "It's my job to kill leeches like you."

"She isn't a leeche." John said. "Now tell me, who are you?"

"I'm Nadia," she said, still glaring at me. "Now who are you two? And what are you, boy?"

"I'm a slayer too. My names John, not boy. And her name is Elizabeth, not leeche."

"Whatever." she said.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her.

"I'm supposed to help John." she said. "That's what I was told to do."

"Well he doesn't need help so you can just leave." I said.

He puts a hand on my shoulder. "Calm, Liz."

"Yes, comfort the bloodsucking demon." Nadia snorted.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing, Miss Demon," she said. "Nothing at all."

"Liz, she just wants to piss you off." John says. "Don't listen to her, ignore her."

"All right." I said with a sigh.

"Let's head over to Liz's place." he suggested. "It's almost sunrise."

"Awww, is little fangy afrwaid of a wittle sun?" she asks talking to me like I'm a little baby.

"No I just happen to burst into flames." I said.

She smiles wickedly. "I'd love to see that."

"Let's just go, girls." John says, dragging us in the direction of my home.

We walked to my penthouse, which was in the basement of some expensive aparetment building I kept on forgetting the name of. It was just a temporary home, I would only be staying here for a couple of years. Five at the most. Then I would be leaving again. It was never safe for me to stay in one place for too long. Then again, it was never safe for me to go anywhere.

I sat down on my couch next to John. Nadia paced back and forth.

"So your with her?" she asks him.

"We are friends." I explained. "I help him with his slaying."

"A vampire traitor then?"

"No, more of a vampire with a heart." I said. "I don't like the thought of killing so I want to help take the killers out of the world."

"Then how do you get blood?"

"From the butchor." John says taking over. "Now down to business, who sent you?"

"Your mom." she said. "Apparently some big uprising is going to be happening."

"When?" he asks.

"Valentine's Day."
