Valentine's day is tomorrow and I haven't seen John since he kissed me. He had left quickly after the kiss had ended. The only contact I have had with him is when he leaves my blood doses on the table, which is always when I'm asleep. He's never once tried to make any sort of contact with me. None whatso ever. Nadia has come over several times though. To plan. She is all for me helping with the fight. In fact, she's even tried to convince John. But he won't come and argue about it with both of us. No instead he just uses Nadia as a messanger.
"Okay, now tell me what exactly went down between you two." she crossed her arms over her chest.
I sighed. "He kissed me."
Her eyes widened. "No way!"
I nodded. "He did."
"And he hasn't talked to you since? That gutless jelly fish. Now he has to." she said walking towards the door, quickly throwing on her jacket.
"Where are you going?" I asked her.
"To get that bastard." she said.
An hour later she comes in with John tied up in a rope. "Let me go!" he growls at her.
"Not until you talk to Elizabeth." she said. She ties him to a chair. "I'm gonna go get something to eat. I'll be back later. By then I want you two to have it all settled. Got it?"
She didn't wait for us to answer. Instead she just leaves.
I stare at John, who avoids my gaze. I walk circled around him, watching his every move. His reaction. His expression. Everything.
It was a completely awkward silence.
I had to break it. "Why haven't you come back?"
"Because I knew that it would be like this. Awkward." he said with a sigh.
"So pushing me away is better?" I asked.
"No, I didn't mean to push you away. It's just I don't want to explain to you why I did that."
"Try me." I said.
"I care about you a lot, Liz. Hell, in fact I love you. But I don't know if you felt the same way about me so I wasn't going to say anything." he said. "That's why I haven't come back here when you were awake."
"So you just jumped to the conclusion that I didn't love you back?"
"That and the fact that a slayer isn't supposed to fall in love with a vampire. My job-"
"Is to slay me." I finished. "I know that part. That still doesn't give you the right to have assumed I didn't love you."
"I'm confused here." he admitted.
I went and kneeled in front of him. "I love you, John. Are you still confused now? Or do I need to make myself more clear?"
He didn't answer. But instead look at me in pure shock. As if he didn't believe what I had said was true. I hardly believed what I had said too. As I had said those words I realized that they were true. I meant them with my entire heart and soul......if I have one that is.
"You do?" he asks.
"I do." I undid his ropes.
His right hand reached up and brushed a strand of my curly blonde hair out of my face. "I don't believe it."
"Well you better because it's the truth. I am in love with you, John, A vampire in love with a slayer. Now that's one for the books." I laughed.
He chuckles along with me. "Yeah it is."
"So what now?" I ask.
He smirks. "I have an idea."
As soon as our lips almost touch Nadia, of course, enters the room again. "Good to see you two are on the same page now." she said. "Now we need to start planning how this fights gonna run and then once John leaves, what dress Elizabeth is going to wear."
We planned for hours on end. In fact, I knew that most of our plans probably weren't going to be put in action. We were still clueless on how many we were going to be fighting and how powerful they would all be. For the first time I had ever seen in the entire time that I had known him, John was scared to fight. Not just because he'd lose me, but he was also thinking of all the other lives that would be put at risk. The ones that might be sacrificed to win.
John leaves after giving me a quick kiss on the lips.
Then me and Nadia plan on what we're going to wear to the dance. She tells me about her date, Trevor. She said at first he was going to be a one time thing, then she realized that she actually likes him. She needed to borrow a dress and heels from me though, since that was the only thing she didn't own any of. All she had were jeans, boots, and t-shirts.The wholesharing clothes worked since we were the same size in dresses and in shoes.
"You should wear this." she says, pulling a dress out of my closet.
"I don't know." I said, looking over it nervously.
"What don't you know? It'll be perfect on you, plus John will freak when he sees you in it." she smiled.
"Fine if you wear this." I said, pulling out a teal dress that would look perfect on her. It was the exact same one that she was holding only in a different color.
"Deal." she said after groaning. "Shoe time."
We walked into my shoe closet, which had been the pantry which I didn't need a walk in one, since I hardly ever ate human food. We both found a pair that would work for our dresses. Nadia was coming over tomorrow after school early to do hair, make up, weapons, and getting ready. Then John and Trevor would be picking us up here.
I was nervous for the dance.Surprisingly, more so than the fight that would be happening there.
After Nadia left, I laid down on myking sized bed and went over in my mind what had all happened today.
I couldn't believe it. John had told me that he loved me. And I had told him that I had loved him too.
All of it seemed to happen in oneinstant. It reminded me somewhat ofhow we had first met.
He came towards me with a stake in hand, ready to send me toeternity in hell. As he charged forward, I avoided the tip with ease. "Stop running away from karma, bitch." he growled at me.
"I haven't done anything wrong." I said.
"You drink blood. What's not wrong about that?" he asks.
"Yes, I drink blood, but not human blood. I only drink animal blood."
He lunged for me again. And yet again, I avoided him completely. "Somehow I find that hard to believe. Oh wait, that's right, never believe a bloodsucking demon."
"I am not a demon. I'm a vampire. If your going to try to insult me then at least get your facts right. And yes, I don't drink human blood. I only drink animal blood." I said. "Didn't anyother slayer send you a message that I would be coming here?"
"Why would a slayer give you the time of day? Or in this case, night." he wondered.
I sighed. "I help them out. I don't agree with draining humans for food. So naturally I help the slayers destroy the ones that do." I pull a note out of the pocket of my coat and hand it to him. "If you don't believe me read this. They knew I was going to have a hard time convincing you. So there's your proof."
"I guess it's true then." he said. "I'm John."
"I'm Elizabeth." I said with a smile. "And whether you like it or not, we're going to be partners.'
A week after being partners we had become the best of friends. That had been just last year. And now, well now we would probably be fighting to the death by each other's side. Not just as best friend, but also as people in love.
