I looked in the mirror. My hair was curled up into a high up-do. The long silver dress fit to me perfectly, going along magically with the silver heels. Nadia was a pro at doing make-up, which worked to the advantage of my pale skin. I looked like some sort of fairy tale princess. I kind of felt like one too at that moment. Except for the fact that I was loaded down with a bunch of different weapons.
The door rings. "I'll get it." Nadia smiles.
She opens it to reveal John and Trevor.
"You look amazing." Trevor says to Nadia.
"You seriously do." John adds.
She smiles. "Wait till you see Elizabeth."
That was my cue. I walk out of the room and into where they were all standing. John's jaw literally drops onto the ground. Sure he's seen me in a dress, but nothing like this. You could tell he liked it by the drool coming out of his mouth.
I smiled at him as I walked forward. "Hey, John."
"You look beautiful, Liz." he said.
"Thank you." I said. "Now we'd better be going."
We all went in Trevor's van. He drove us to the school. We walked in with all the other high schoolers. They all turned and looked at us, whispering to their dates and friends.
"Do I have something on me?" I asked.
"No, they're just jealous that I have the beautifulest date." he said, giving my hand a squeeze.
"And I have the sexiest man on my arm," I said, smiling back at him.
"Your just saying that." he accused.
"Not lying." I replied.
We walked into the dance. John paid the admission for me and Trevor for Nadia. Then we scoped out the room. No one was looking suspicious.
"Want to dance?" John asks as the next songs changes.
"All right." I said.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dance floor. His arms went tightly around my waist. My arms went around his neck. We started swaying to the music.
Just then there were people screaming. A group of vampires and demons walked onto the dance floor. I pulled the weapons I had concealed out, as did Nadia and John. Then we all charged into action.
We tossed some weapons to students who fought alongside us, even though they didn't know what was going on.
"Stab them in the heart." I shouted.
They nodded, and eventually suceeded after a few tries.
John dragged me to the edge of the dance floor. "There are too many of them, I want you to get out of here."
"No way, I'm staying to fight with you." I said.
"Don't argue with me, I don't want to see you get hurt." he said.
"And I'm not gonna leave so that you can get yourself hurt." I argued.
"Don't argue with me, Elizabeth." he said.
"I am not leaving you." I said.
A vampire charges towards me. I stabbed him with a stake.
I turned back to John. "You need me here. And I'm staying. I'm going to fight, whether you like it or not."
He sighs. "Guess we better get back to business."
We went back into the battlefield. I fought full force. So did John. We put everything we had into the fight, more so than we did in all the other fights we had ever fought.
"You are going to watch your pretty boy die, Elizabeth," a vampire told me.
"Jack?" I gasped recognizing him.
"Surprise." he said, then punched me in the face. "You were always a beautiful one. Shame how I have to destroy you."
My old friend. One of the ones that had changed around the same time that I had. He had been one of the only ones who had shared the same idea that I had. All that changed after we had tried to escape from our imprisonment. He had been captured. I had escaped. We had runaway to go find the slayers and help them. Now because I didn't help him escape again, he had changed into one of them. Vampires who enjoy killing.
I stabbed him with a stake.
"You killed me!" he gasped.
"I know I did." I said as I watched him turn into dust.
I went back to fighting the others. Soon the fight was over. I didn't know how long it lasted. Only a few student casualties, not as many as I had expected. Some were injured. But most seemed to be all right.
"You okay?" I asked Nadia.
"I've had worse." she said, as she wrapped a bandage around a sliced up wrist.
"What were those things?" Trevor asks.
"Those things that turned into dust, were vampires." I said. I pointed to a demon body that was on the ground. "Those were demons."
"What are you three?" he asks in awe.
"Nadia and I are slayers." John said.
"And Elizabeth? Is she one too?"
"No, I'm a vampire," I said.
His eyes widen and he raises the stake that he's holding. He goes to stab me with it.
I grab a hold of his wrist. "I'm a good vampire. I've been helping slayers for ages."
"So it's over." Nadia said looking over the entire gym.
John sighs and puts his arms around my waist. "For now."
"I highly doubt there will be anything this big happen for years." I said. "I haven't seen a fight this big since my earlier years."
"At least we won't have to worry bout this to happen for a while. We can all rest." Trevor said.
"Nah, there will still be bloodsuckers to kill." Nadia tells him. "It's our job. To kill them."
"We better head on out. It's getting late." I said. "Plus I don't want the police to see us. Or me to be taken to a hospital. Plus the smell........"
They all nod and we head to the front of the building. We open the doors. I'm the first to step out.
"Liz, get out of the way!" John shouts.
But it's too late. I already see the brightness of the morning sun. My body starts to burn. I look at John. "I love you."
I hear him whisper, "I love you, Elizabeth, always will."
I took one last look at the world. The sunlight lit everything up. It didn't look anything like it did at night. No it was beautiful and happy.
The last thing I saw was flock of birds fly across the sky. Then I was just a pile of ashs.
