Point of View: Bailey
"Bailey... Baileeeeey... BAILEY!" The blond-haired, blue-eyed boy jerked awake to the sound of someone shouting his name. He rubbed his eyes and blinked a couple of times, glancing up to see a taller boy standing beside him. "Bailey, what the hell, man!" The other boy snapped, his face contorted into an angry scowl.
Bailey, the still-half-asleep blond, mumbled, "Huh... what happened?"
"I'll tell you what happened, Bailey. You fell asleep in the middle of the teacher's goddamn lecture!" The tall boy snapped. "And I had to cover for you! I mean, what if she'd noticed you were asleep? It's pretty hard to keep your head sitting straight up while you're conked out."
Bailey winced as he stood and felt a pain in his neck that he was 99 percent sure he hadn't had before. He didn't recall any of the events recounted by his friend, but it made sense. Especially considering his face had just been lying flat on his desk, with a pool of what he assumed to be drool on his lecture notes.
"Ah... Allen, I'm sorry..." Bailey sighed.
Allen's scowl hadn't gone yet. Though, from Bailey's experience, once it got there, it was a near-permanent addition to his face. That was, at least for the next couple of days. "Yeah, well... it just better not happen again." He replied, looking away and packing his notes, binders, sticky notes, paperclips, and any other random items he'd collected for the day into his backpack.
Allen was weird like that; he collected random junk. "Not that I mind covering for you, but it was for a whole five minutes. Come on, dude- you never fell asleep for that long before."
As he also started packing up his stuff, Bailey winced and rubbed the back of his neck. It was both due to the pain he was experiencing, and a nervous habit. "I'm sorry, Allen, I really am." He mumbled.
The green-eyed boy shook his head and let out an annoyed huff. "I said it's fine, Bailey."
For some unknown reason, Bailey now felt even worse. He also felt the need to explain himself. "Well, I mean... my parents have been so busy lately, with my new little sister, and they've been needing my help- and I have to stay up later, and that's why I've been so tired in class and-"
His sentence was cut short by a green-eyed death glare from Allen. "Please shut up, Bailey. I'm trying to pack my stuff."
The cold glare, the angry voice... Bailey had seen it all before. He wasn't surprised. Allen was always like this. It wasn't that he was rude, or mean; he was just always cold and blunt, and wouldn't try to hide it if he was aggravated or mad about something. In fact, Bailey was angry with himself for even bringing it up. What, did he think Allen would want to hear about the struggles of having a little sister? He had an older twin brother and sister, so he knew how siblings were.
They walked out of the room in an awkward silence, and after several seconds, Bailey felt the urge to apologize again. He knew it would only make things worse, but he couldn't help it. "A-Allen... I'm really sorry-"
Allen stopped in his tracks and turned back to Bailey, his expression furious. "BAILEY. SHUT UP! STOP APOLOGIZING!" He yelled.
Bailey stared at his feet, not sure what exactly he was doing so wrong, but sure it was his fault. He heard Allen scoff angrily before sighing and shaking his head. "Okay... Bailey, my girlfriend is having a party tonight. I think it's sort of like a, 'woo, beginning of the year, we're not dead yet, let's celebrate' kind of thing?" He shrugged awkwardly. "I... I dunno, maybe you'd wanna come. I think it's gonna be fun." He offered Bailey a small smile, which was enough to lift the other boy's spirits.
