Dr.Robbins promised that she'd keep out a good eye for Melanie while she stayed at the hospital overnight for observation. After his shift ended Alex went home to convince Jo that Melanie could stay with them for a while.

Alex stepped into their loft as he said "Jo?"

"Yeah" Jo responded

"So uhm what would you think about us taking in a homeless child while DCFS finds a placement" Alex continued

"That's a big step, I know I said I wanted kids soon, but are you ready for this Alex?" Jo answered

"Yes I'm sure" He said

"Okay, so when is this child coming?" Jo asked

"In a day or two, really depends on how long it takes for the paperwork to go through"

"Oh, okay that soon? " Jo said as she continued saying "It's fine, so how old is she or he"

"She is a she and she's uhm..."

"Alex?"

"She's 12"

"12?! you know you could have told me that we're taking in a teenager. I thought she was going to be like 6" Jo said loudly

"Technically she's not a teenager YET" Alex responded

"Okay well she's a bit older than I expected, but It'll work." Jo said

Josephine and Alexander filled in and sent the paperwork off to DCFS the same night. They also talked to a social worker over the phone. She said that they could take Melaine in the day after but it was likely that she wouldn't be able to stay permanently since neither Alex nor Jo would pass the background check. They both went to bed nervously as they wondered what it would be like to take custody of Melanie.

At the hospital, Arizona informed Melanie that she was going to stay with Dr.Karev and his wife temporarily. She was super excited since she hadn't stayed in a real house since years back.

Eventually, all of them fell asleep and the morning came quick.

Jo was the first one to wake up, she cooked breakfast for her and Alex and then woke him up. About an hour later they left to go to the mall and buy some stuff for Melanie.

As Jo and Alex were shopping at Walmart she asked "Is Mel a girly girl or a tomboy?"

"I- I don't know, how should I know?" He answered

"I don't know, what was she wearing when she came into the ER?"

"I think she was wearing some sweatpants, a shirt with a one direction print, and a black sweater." Alex continued "But I'm pretty sure
she just took whatever she could get her hands on. I don't think there's been much of a choice for her."

"Okay. I'll just buy some neutral stuff for her and then we can go shopping later so that she can pick out what she likes" Jo paused for a second before she asked, "What size is she is she a regular 12-year-old, or is she smaller or bigger?"

"She was average height for a 12-year-old but she was quite skinny tho."

"Okay, I'll buy a slightly smaller size then. "Oh and one last question, has she gotten her perio-"

"I DON'T KNOW, I DIDN'T ASK!" Alex responded

"Didn't you ask when she came into the ER?"

"Of course I did just like this, "Hey I'm doctor Karev and my wife is wondering if you have gotten your period yet because she's having a hard time deciding whether she should buy extra pads or not."

Jo started laughing hysterically "Yes, that's exactly what I meant, isn't that the first thing you ask." she said while she continued her laughter

Alex and Jo continued shopping for Melanie, they bought a bed, sheets, clothes basically everything a 12-year-old girl needs. When they came home they started packing up, Alex assembled the bed together while Jo fixed a welcome basket. They worked together setting up room dividers since their loft wasn't very big. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Melanie was getting ready to leave. She packed her stuff up and made the bed when Arizona came into the room

"So all of your tests came back clean. Are you ready to leave?" She asked

"That's great and yes I am. Thank you for everything, Dr.Robbins." Melanie responded

"No problem, and please call me Arizona, we are going to be seeing each other a lot more since you're going to stay with Alex and Jo for a while," Arizona said. She continued by saying "Are you ready to take your iv out?"

Melanie frowned but answered "Yeah."

Arizona saw the frown on Mel's face, "Hey I'm just going to step out for a sec, I'll be right back." She stepped out of the room and grabbed Dr. Amelia Shepherd who was the closest person available. Arizona asked Dr.Shepherd if she could be in the room to help her take Melanie's iv out. Since Amelia had finished her charts and had nothing better to do she said yes and followed Arizona into the room.

"This is Dr.Shepherd and she's going to help me take the iv out"

Melanie looked up and smiled. Amelia sat down on one of those rolling chairs and rolled up to Melanie with a tray, Arizona sat at the other side of the bed. Amelia put her gloves on and disinfected the area around the iv, Arizona asked a bunch of questions to distract Mel to distract her while Amelia took the iv out.

"And you're all done," Shepherd said.

"Thank you," Melanie responded.

About 30 minutes later Melanie walked out to the parking lot with Arizona as Alex's and Jo's car rolled up, Melanie said goodbye to Arizona as she got into the car. Jo who hadn't met Melanie yet introduced herself, just a few minutes Melanie was on her way to her new home.

After a 20 minute drive, they arrived at the house, all of them stepped inside as Jo said"I've cooked some dinner for all of us, Arizona told me that you liked noodles so I cooked some noodle stew for us to eat. Welcome home Melanie"
