Some secrets are better left alone. Better left pushed deep down inside of us as we refuse to acknowledge them. I have several secrets like that, as I'm sure all of us do. Being Avengers... we all have a past. There are things about each of us that no one knows. Details from our past that we refuse to let anyone know. Of course we wouldn't want them to know these things, because the chance that the world would soon know and our weaknesses would be cast out into the world is too high.
I have my secrets, I have my past locked as much behind bars as I can possibly get it."Nat," Tony interrupts my train of thought.
"Hm? What?"
"Are you ready to go? Or were you not listening to anything we've just been discussing?" Steve nudges me and I laugh.
"Sorry. Where are we going?"
"We've been called in to retrieve a girl," Tony answers as we go to get ready. "No, I don't know any of the details before you ask. I just know that she's dangerous, and we're supposed to bring her here."
"If she's dangerous, why are we bringing her here-" I ask, and Tony groans.
"If I have to answer that question one more time, I will get in my car and drive home to my family."
I raise an eyebrow. "Seriously? You're expecting us to just go after a girl to which we know nothing about? And then bring her back here?"
"That's ridiculous, Tony. And you know it." I look behind me to see Wanda, all geared up and ready to go. There's quite a crowd of us living here now, and I smile. We really are our own family. Technically, Tony has two families. He's one of the lucky ones.
"Excuse me, but yesterday, I had all of you complaining about how you had nothing to do. That you were bored and wanted something to do. Now? You're all whining like little puppies!""Mr. Stark, I'll have you know that I haven't even said a word!" Peter exclaims.
"We can't just bring a kid back here when we don't even know why, Tony. Shouldn't you know that? You've got a kid and all, what would you do if she was randomly-" Thor starts.
"Don't bring Morgan into this." Tony murmurs. "I didn't decide that we are going to go and get this girl. I wasn't given details, I was given instructions."
"Alright then," I tell them. "Let's go."
We're all ready and in the quinjet within the hour. Steve sits beside me, talking gently about what sort of things this girl must have done to require us to get her.
"I bet she's like you," Thor tells Wanda. "A young rebel."
Wanda glares at him. "You have no idea what I went through." Like me, Wanda has her secrets. Hers a perhaps kept closer to her chest than mine.
She's a mystery.
Thor doesn't respond.I always wondered what people think when they see us, when the quinjet touches down and they see us all pile out.
"So... is it like... a little girl?" Wanda asks when Tony climbs out last.
"She's a teenager." Tony answers.
"So what? Do we bribe her with money and clothes?" I joke. "We've dealt with more than a teenager. Peter was a teenager when we found him."
"She's different." Tony answers, not quite meeting my eye. "Obviously make sure that she doesn't harm anyone, but don't hurt her too bad."
"When do we ever hurt anyone?" Steve answers.
"Do we know where she is?" Wanda asks.
"I will keep in contact with you." Tony tells us. "Don't go too crazy, okay?"
"It's just a girl." I shrug.
