Kaoru sat cross legged in front of his canvas, large paintbrush in hand as he mixed his water colors and continued on his piece. Carla playing soft violin music in the background, Kaoru deep in thought. Would Kojiro freak out if he asked him? Would he be ok with it? Was it selfish of him to ask to change their plans to be so one sided to his own heart? He sighed, wiping his brow with the back of his hand, leaning back a bit to check his work.
It was fine. He was grateful he was using watercolors, the soft hues not clashing together as they would if they were brighter, but he wasn't in line with his art. Or maybe he was just too wrapped up in his own thoughts to truly appreciate it, it wasn't that bad, after all.
He was currently working on a piece of the beach, palm trees off in the right corner that he hoped didn't appear too dark. Kaoru had debated adding a sailboat off in the distance but had decided against it, allowing himself more free reign to add larger waves instead.
A few seagulls here, some soft fluffy clouds there, he didn't mind it. Unfortunately he was far too much of a perfectionist to ever truly love his own work, hence he depended so much on Carla for calligraphy."I want to change the date of the wedding." Kaoru spoke softly, golden orbs still focused on the canvas in front of him, but he could feel his fiancees eyes staring into the back of his head.
"You do?" Kojiro asked, carefully wrapping his arms around Kaoru as he sat behind him, admiring his work. There was a sense of worry in his voice, and Kaoru knew he should answer his lover quickly before causing a spike in anxiety.
"I do. I don't want to wait until next fall. I was thinking we could get married in Canada, when we go visit Langa. It's much easier to get legitimately married there. We could elope and then have a larger reception here. I just worry it'll upset your family. We know mine wouldn't attend anyway, but I don't want to upset your mother."
Kojiro felt his heart swell, squeezing him tightly. He had no problem eloping. Hell, Kojiro would've happily ran to the courthouse the second Kaoru had said yes to him when he has asked. His mind flashed to his mother, he knew she wouldn't want to miss it. But he also felt like she would understand. Kojiro would probably never hear the end of it from his sisters, but he felt like they too would understand.
Kaoru leaned back again, this time leaning into Kojiro's chest, half getting a better look at his piece and half trying to get Kojiro's attention. Did he upset him?
Kojiro kissed Kaoru's hair, smiling into it as he spoke."You do realize we are going to Canada next month, right?" Kaoru nodded once, setting his brush down and turning to face Kojiro. He stretched his long lean legs out, allowing them to rest over Kojiro's, pulling himself closer to his fiancée, their noses now almost touching. Kojiro eyed him curiously, trying to make sure this wasn't a prank, but he knew better. Kaoru, while, prickly at times, and oh so very sarcastic. And stubborn. Kaoru didn't joke about emotions, not significant events or feelings. Kojiro's bright eyes locked into Kaoru's golden ones, waiting for Kaoru to speak.
Kaoru felt the blush creep onto his face, wishing he had his fan. Not that it would've done much good, being so close to Kojiro, it was more force of habit than anything.
"I'm well aware, Kojiro. Is that alright with you?" Kojiro quickly pulling Kaoru into his lap with one swift sweep of his strong arms, not giving Kaoru much time to react. He kissed him, tenderly, hoping he understood his answer was yes. It was always yes whenever it came to Kaoru. Kojiro really never stood a chance. Kaoru pulled back after a moment, pressing their foreheads together.
"I also have another question."
Kojiro smirked, an eyebrow raised in curiosity."I swear if you ask me if I still love you I'm going to lose my mind." Kojiro teased gently, knowing the beginning of their relationship was strained a bit only due to Kaoru's anxiety.
Kaoru pouted, rolling his eyes, flicking Kojiro right between the eyes."Hey!" Kojiro protested, sticking his tongue out at him.
"I wanted to know if it would be alright if I took your last name. I don't think we've ever actually discussed if anyone would even change their name, but I was thinking-"Kojiro beamed, giving Kaoru one of the biggest toothy grins he had possibly ever seen. Kojiro felt his heart skip a beat, swollen with love and adoration for the beautiful man before him.
He kissed Kaoru again, more hungrily than the previous kiss, a familiar heat stirring and pooling up in his stomach. Kaoru let his fingers intertwine into the thick green locks of Kojiro's hair, pulling himself up even further onto Kojiro's lap, no space between them now even if they wanted it.
"Is that alright then?" Kaoru finally asked, panting slightly trying to catch his breath. Kojiro tucked a stray piece of Kaoru's hair back behind his ear, the rest of Kaoru's hair still arranged in the messy bun atop his head. Kojiro knew the history Kaoru had with his father, and it wasn't pleasant.
"Kaoru Nanjo." Kojiro almost purred into Kaoru's ear, Kaoru's body shuddering in response.
"Mmm." Kaoru muttered softly, his eyes fluttering closed as he expected Kojiro to kiss him again."I love it. I guess I had lowkey hoped you'd want my name." He pondered the thought, his mind only wanting to repeat Kaoru Nanjo like a soft hum.
"You did? Why didn't you mention it to me?" Kaoru's eyes were open now, focused on the man in front of him. Kojiro nodded once, folding his legs into a cross cross position, now trapping Kaoru in his lap.
"I just want you to be mine, forever. For the whole world to know. But if you hadn't wanted to change your name, I would've understood that too." Kaoru glanced down at their bodies and positions, eagerly wishing to push Kojiro flat on his back, but he knew as much as he hated to admit it, Kojiro was significantly stronger than him in upper body strength.
"I've never been truly attached to my last name, and cutting ties from my father completely would be rather accomplishing to me, if I'm being completely honest. I thought about keeping Sakura as a middle name though." He paused, his voice and eyes both suddenly uncharacteristically soft.
"I don't want to cut my mother off completely. Then I could feel like I'm not abandoning her entirely."
Kojiro nodded again, this time unhooking his legs and standing up, extending a hand to Kaoru.
Kaoru took it, slightly puzzled, now standing in front of Kojiro, eyebrow raised."Again, whatever you want, Ru." Kojiro said lovingly.
Before he had realized what was happening, Kojiro picked Kaoru up and slung him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes."What the hell are you doing?!" Kaoru shrieked, punching Kojiro in the back.
"You're mine." Kojiro's tone was low and seductive, Kaoru immediately understanding what happened next. He was placed on the bed, Kojiro already straddling Kaoru's hips, quick to remove his shirt and toss it on the floor.
"Kaoru Nanjo." Kojiro breathed into Kaoru's ear, his eyes rolling in the back of his head in delight.
"I could definitely get used to that." Kaoru purred back, mouth now pressed feverishly against Kojiro's.
