The Hospital had never been far from Iwaizumi's house, just about a 5 minute drive but to Iwaizumi, it felt like a a million minutes had passed by every second longer they were in that ambulance. He sat there, barely being able to hold onto Oikawa's hand he was trembling so much. It wasn't out of fear as the others had thought. It was out of guilt. The fact that he had dragged Oikawa out to that tree and the fact that he hadn't been able to save his best friend killed Iwaizumi. He was so lost in thought he hadn't felt Mrs. Iwaizumi shake him, warning him they had almost arrived at the ER.
The ambulance stopped and back rushed paramedics. Iwaizumi grabbed onto his mom and auntie's hands and closely flowed the stretcher, practically dragging the Mrs'. The paramedics brought Oikawa to a separate examination room. As Iwaizumi tried to follow, he was stopped by a doctor. "Sorry buddy. Only the little boy's mother is allowed in." Iwaizumi scoffed as he trudged over to the waiting room a few feet away.
He sat there for a grueling 1.5 hours before Mrs. Oikawa came out, allowing them into the room. Iwaizumi sprinted into the room and straight to the bedside of Oikawa. "I-Iwa-Chan? Is t-that you?" Oikawa's vision was kinda blurred, the wind still being knocked outta him. Oikawa reached out his slightly shaking hand and Iwaizumi's heart throbbed. He could hardly stand the sight of his best friend barely being able to recognize him. In that moment, he made a promise to himself: "No matter our age, whether we're friends, lovers or enemies, I will protect Oikawa until my last breath."
