Not a breath went in, and not a breath went out. Red and blue lights flashed one after the other on repeat never intended to stop. There were people everywhere. A lot of them were talking, yet she couldn't make out a single word.

Emotionless brown eyes stared, unmoving into the distance. Nothing moved, not an inch. She was trapped in a catatonic state, as if she were dead. She wasn't, but she would soon wish she was.

Something wrapped around her. Then, a weight on her shoulder. Coldness seeped through her torn shirt and onto her skin. Water. No, not water. Tears. But who? Everly's body urged her to comfort this person back but nothing moved. She stayed still. Air forced itself into her lungs but only just enough to keep her from dying.

Her eyes did not see. Nothing came into focus. Everything was blurry. What was happening to her?

Mumbling was heard in the distance. Or was it right next to her? Everly couldn't tell. She was underwater. And she was drowning. Her mind had shut off and nothing was clear to her anymore. The mumbling got louder. And louder. And louder, until the person was officially screaming her name. That's what it was. It was her name.

"EVERLY!"

Nothing.

"EVERLY, PLEASE!"

Nothing.

"NO! EVERLY, WAKE UP!"

And yet, nothing.

But then...

"EVERLY! Everly just wake up goddammit. I can't lose you too. Not like this."

That's when her body took in the biggest breath, like she was breaking through the surface of the water. Finally. Everly's mind flooded with an ocean of destruction. The moments prior had just made themselves known.

No. This couldn't be happening.

Everly took a look at her surroundings. 3 ambulances. One she had taken refuge in. She was sitting on the back of the ambulance with the doors left open, probably placed there by a medic but they left the second no response was found. She had been in shock.

The second ambulance was closed up and had started leaving, lights flashing and siren blaring. Not a thought crossed her mind. Then her eyes caught onto the third ambulance. A body was being lifted into the back of it. At first she didn't think anything of it. However that cluelessness didn't last long. A pale bloody hand lolled off of the side of the stretcher.

Everly's heart stopped. The friendship bracelet that Everly had given her father when she was 5 that he never took off. Ever. Was strapped to the covered body's wrist.

No

Almost automatically, Everly's body stood up and hurriedly stumbled towards the last ambulance. A seering pain had taken over her right leg, but she ignored it. She just kept running.

The off balance teen struggled to reach them in time, but when she did, she held the lifeless hand for one last time.

"NO! NO DAD! DAD, DON'T LEAVE ME! YOU PROMISED ME! DAD!", she screamed her lungs out all whilst clutching to her lifeless lifeline.

Tears were streaming down her face with no intention to stop.

"Don't leave me", her voice cracked under the thickness of the emotion.

But it was too late. He already did.
