The whispers of a Hozier song resonated in her ears through the headphones engulfing her ears. Everly mindlessly stared out the car window, eyes flicking back and forth between the endless woods that surrounded the roads that lead to what was once called home.Next to her, Octavia's lips soundlessly rambled - at least to Everly, it was soundless - giving a never ending squeal about how she was going to see her best friend again. Personally, Everly couldn't stand Bella Swan, but she wouldn't mention it out loud unless she wanted to hurt her sister's feelings. To Octavia the move back to La Push was exciting and a good idea, but to Everly, she couldn't help but shake the feeling that it just felt wrong. That defying her father's demands of ever going back there was an amazing idea.
Just the thought of La Push sent chills down her spine. Something was very off about that place. But how would she know, she hadn't been there since she was six.
Maybe it was the mental reminder of her father or maybe it was the lack of his fatherly figure that was meant to be sitting next to her. But he wasn't sitting next to her in this car. And he would never have the chance to sit next to her again. Not at her graduation, not at her wedding, not even when she would get excepted into college. He won't be standing there or sitting there when she was cheering for these amazing things. He wouldn't even be able to walk her down the aisle.
Tree after tree after tree. Memories flashed by like pages to a story book through her mind. Everly's breath picked up pace. Every muscle in her body began to tense. Her teeth clenched and her hands fisted. A pounding rapidly began to form within her skull making it harder and harder for her to focus on anything else. Somehow Octavia was completely oblivious to the tense teenager beside her, still intent on listening to Bella's life story.
Everly's eyes squeezed together bringing her face into a large grimace. Her chest continued to pick up pace. Finally Everly brought a heavy hand down onto the closest thing she could touch, bringing her sister out of her daze.
"Stop the car", Everly gritted out painfully. This wasn't the first time this had happened and it definitely wasn't going to be the last.
Octavia glanced uneasily from the road to Everly and back again. "What? Why? What's going on?", a concerned frown swept across her face.
"JUST STOP THE FREAKING CAR ALREADY!"
Taking that as a definite cue to stop the car, Octavia swerved onto the side of the road. The sound of loose gravel and dirt scraping against the tires.
Before the car had come fully to a halt, Everly was already out of the vehicle. Door wide open and passenger seat very recently abandoned. The eldest sister made a scurry to unbuckle her seatbelt and run to the other side, where Everly sat on all fours in the dirt. The sisters huddled together in comfort there on the side of the road as Everly sobbed into Octavia's arms. Neither of them realising the large sign just feet away from them reading "welcome to La Push".
A/N: I know this was short but they will get longer, I promise.
