I walked to school, actually walked to school instead of trudging there. I don't know, I liked that Chace was going to meet me outside the classroom in the morning... Or something. Not that I wanted to see him or whatever.
"Nat- Antarctica! Over here." I recognised Chace's voice immediately. I swivelled around and waved once I saw him quickening his footsteps to join me.
"Hi," I said quietly. Morning was not my most energetic time of day.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked with a tint of worry, "I'm sorry for yesterday. I didn't mean to do anything that affected yo-"
"It's fine really. I'm just tired." I kind of whispered, and started to walk closer to him. What was I doing?
Without hesitation, I stumbled away from him to keep our distance.
He ignored my weird movements and smiled when we reached the classroom.
"Okay, we're early so what should we do?"
"Um. Just sit I guess..?" He wanted to do something? Like what?
"I just realised we're wearing matching hoodies! And jeans!" Chace exclaimed suddenly as if trying to lighten the mood.
My eyes widened and I looked down, then back at him. Oh. We were actually wearing the same thing: White hoodie and blue denim jeans.
"Oh. That's cool."
"I know right." He smiles again. I keep a straight face and walk to my seat before sitting down and completing the Killua drawing I was doing the previous day.
"No, seriously. It looks great." Chace says beside me. I look in his direction before mumbling a 'thanks' and continuing my drawing. It wasn't that I was being distant or something, I just hate talking in the morning, even if he's my... friend?
Chace notices my distance and shifts his eyes away from me, then starts to walk around the classroom aimlessly.
"How are you so energetic?" who said that? I blink twice and find out that I said it.
"Hmmm... I don't know, born with spirit!" he laughs and proceeds to climb on a desk and jump from that desk to another. Followed by full-on parkour.
"Yo, get down. I... You'd fall" I widen my eyes and look at him hopping from desk to desk without fear. I don't know why, but something in me felt like doing something, something different. So, I cautiously climbed onto a desk and stepped over to the nearest one, and surprisingly, the desks seemed so easy to balance on. I started to step towards Chace's direction, quickening with each step.
I was having fun. For once in years, I was having fun. Laughing. Smiling. Doing something different. Dangerous, thrilling. It felt weird. But it felt great.
And soon, I was leaping from desk to desk, playing tag with Chace like I was still 7 years old.
"I've... GOT YOU!" I screamed and grinned, slamming my palm on Chace's shoulder, proud that I won. I checked the time, 5 minutes until the first person other than me and Chace arrives.
"Wait wha-" Chace turned around and was about to leap to another desk again, but as he looked behind at me desperate to escape, soaring through the air, he didnt land on the desk. Instead, he tumbled to the ground with a thud and while my hand was still on his shoulder, I feel with him.
"Ow, ouch. You okay?" I hear Chace say beside me.
"Um... Yeah." I wasn't that okay, my arm hurt like mad since I fell directly on it, and I was sure he felt worse. His stomach hit the side of the desk before he fell face first onto the ground.
"Hey, get up. You okay? People are going to see you lying here weirdly, you know." I tell him. I check the clock, 1 minute till the next person arrives.
He doesn't move.
"HEY! You okay? Can you move?" I started to get worried.
He doesn't answer.
"Dude, get up. Is this a joke?" I flipped him over. His eyes were barely open, his smile still vaguely showing on his face. His nose was bleeding, hands clutching his own stomach and he seemed covered in dust.
"Oh my gosh, okay um. Uh. Can you talk?"
"ye.. Yeah... C-Can you help me up?"
I scrambled to hold him by the arms and pull him up, then grabbed a tissue from the teacher's table and handed it to him, asking him to clean his nose. Or something.
"Thanks," he smiles. How is he smiling?
I drag him over to our desk and just a few seconds later, the first person arrives and stares weirdly at me and Chace, but forgets about it.
"Um, you need to go to the office, or something?" I ask him, still clutching my arm. It felt more painful that self harm did. I unconsciously started to stare at me wrist, scars filled with more meaning than intended visible. I sighed.
"Uh, no its fine. Just a nosebleed. And abit of a blow to my guts" he laughs and wipes off some of the dust on his face.
"Okay..."
"Seriously, I'm fine," he says while shutting his eyes for a brief moment.
"Uh. Ok. I didn't ask but sure." the words slip before I know it.
"I mean- I mean sorry, or something. I didn't mean that..!" I scramble to find my words.
He laughs and shakes his head.
I don't have the energy to talk.

I watch my classmates trickle in one by one- no, in groups. They all give me a weird stare and give Chace 'signal stares' as I call it, like a 'what are you doing sitting with her' stare. And the 'do you want to sit with us instead' stare.
Chace just shrugs and looks at them intensely while they shuffle to their seats awkwardly from the eye contact.
"Dude, what are you doing? Stop staring," I tell him quietly.
"Well they're staring at you! And me! Why can't I stare at them?" he snaps, I can tell he's mad. For some reason.
"Are.. Are you angry at me or something?" I mumble and feel my heart sink.
"No, of course not. Its just... They seem so judgemental!" he rolls his eyes and says abit too loudly. I pretend I did not hear that.
Finally, the teacher enters and we begin class.
I stare out of the window and wish that I could return to the morning. When I didn't care about anything. When I laughed.
When I felt okay.
When I finally felt normal.
