Recap (because I'm a sleazy little fuck and I haven't written for two months):

Steven, Darren and Leila end up in a gay bar by accident, Steven and Darren dance together (hot & filthy, yes), Steven freaks, dances with another man while basically staring at Darren the whole time, they fight, they don't talk, Steven finds out he's gay (shocker) and comes out to Leila, after which he falls down in a minor panic attack. Leila forces Steven to call Darren, whom he hasn't spoken to in... I don't know, a pretty long time. Like a week. Maybe not.

"Leila?" He picked up after the first ring, sounding groggy and confused and something inside Steven twitched. He had missed the guy.

      "No, it's Steven."

(fun fact, I wrote this recap a month before I actually uploaded this, hah)

CHAPTER SEVEN

'in which a character practices coming out to an inanimate object'

'in which your character comes out to a cashier at Walmart'

'in which the main character meets Ellen Degeneres at Walmart'

"DARREN, I HAVE TO—no, that's not—ugh," Steven groaned, falling facedown onto the plush bear he stole from Chris' room. It smelled like dust and morning breath, but Steven didn't have to energy to pick his head up from the toy. He had been going on and on, trying to find the right words to make up with Darren and, while he was at it, tell him the big news. He would understand, probably, but maybe the timing was off. And it also doesn't explain anything he'd done to him to make him rightfully angry. He huffed into the fabric and slowly lifted his face from it, only so he could breathe. "Alright. Darren, I can't take you seriously, because you're a bear in a football jersey. You can go back to Chris now."

After he brought back the thing and put it down exactly where it was so Chris wouldn't notice anything when he came back from soccer practice, he walked down to the kitchen. "Hey, mom," he said when he opened the cabinets in search for something sugary but came up empty, "when were you planning on running errands?"

"Tomorrow, probably, why?" She called back from the living room. Steven groaned and walked over, leaning against the doorpost.

"Because we don't have anything."

"Yes we do, we've got plenty. Eat some fruit."

"I don't want fruit, I want Hershey Drops or something."

"Then go to Walmart, I'm sure they have your unhealthy snacks, but I am not going to go grocery shopping a day too soon just to make you fat, am I clear? You should get a job, that way you can go buy your ridiculous candy all the time."

"Fine." Steven walked back to his room and turned his wallet upside down. $4.30. He smiled and grabbed his jacket and keys. He opted his bike over the car when he noticed the sun coming out of the clouds, warming his arms, bared from the rolled-up sleeves. He paddled over to the store, wind pushing him along faster until his legs couldn't catch up with the motions and he had to still them. He rolled around the streets of his town quietly, past Leila's house and past Applebee's.  Past the local store that didn't sell the chocolate he wanted. Past Darren's mother, whom he greeted with a wave. Finally he arrived at the Walmart just outside the borders of his home. He parked his bike outside and walked over to the entrance.

The doors opened automatically and Steven was met with a cool breeze the second he walked in, chilling the drops of sweat om his face that had surfaced when he was out in the sun. He wiped his arm over his eyebrows and browsed the store for Hershey Drops. "Excuse me, hi, where can I find the Hershey chocolates?" He asked one of the employees walking past him.
