Cheer Practice

I usually never watch Kate at cheer practice. I don't even know why I suggested that I wanted to go earlier today, but after school I was on the bleachers at the football field.

Today wasn't a normal practice, though. It was tryouts and ding, ding, ding, Sam was trying out.

I flip open my textbook. My last sheet of homework: math. I grab a pencil from inside my backpack and get to work. I look up a few moments later and see Sam walking onto the field. She looks hella good. (Don't you dare quote me on that). Sam runs her hands over the bottom of her dress, straightening it out.

She should definitely wear more dresses, I think to myself.

Kate starts over to the group of girls that want to try out. She turns on her radio and shows them the choreography. Once she's finished the girls try to copy what she did.

Sam kills it. I hate to admit it but she's great. Even a little too great.

Sam stumbles and I hear her cry out in pain. For some reason, I'm off the bleachers and near her in less than a minute.

"You okay?" I ask.

"Does it look like I'm fucking okay?!" Sam says while gripping her ankle, tears almost streaming down her face.

"Lean on me." I say anyway.

She does.

"I'll get her home." I call over to Kate.

She nods and her smile shows sympathy for Sam. She continues to show the other girls the routine.

I walk back over to the bleachers with Sam leaning on me. I set her down but she doesn't let go of my hand.

"Want me to drive you home?" I ask while looking at our hands knotted together.

She nods.

I obey and swing her other arm over my shoulder. She grabs my hand tighter while I start to walk to my car.

I managed to open the passenger door. I slide her in and untangle our hands. I reach over her to strap the seatbelt on. She smells like honey and strawberries. She slides me a small, (stupid cute) smile while I close her door.
