Rules.
Of course, there were rules.
Izuku had rules for everywhere.
When he was homeless, he made himself a few.
To never trust strangers.
Only sleep a bit, and in abandoned places.
If you see a hero or a cop, run straight to the other side. Far from them.
To stay up most of the nights, to keep himself safe.
After doing a all-nighter, to stay and rest in the abandoned house he was in, so he wouldn't just pass out on the street.
If he run out of food, he should steal only when there are a lot of people in the shop, so it would be easier to hide it. Or, when the cashier is looking away, or walking to the side. Just when he 100% knows that no one is watching him.
But In his old house, there were lots of rules. Sometimes too much.
Like, to never walk into his parent's bedroom.
To never get food without asking.
To never leave his room at nights, unless his parents told him to do something.
To never talk without permission.
He wasn't allowed to have a phone, and he wasn't allowed to watch TV. Even though he managed to watch a bit when his parents were watching as well, until they noticed he was watching and sent him straight to his room, not without yelling and beating.
There were lots of other rule, but his parents kept repeating the most important one.
To never tell anyone about what's happening inside the house.
Izuku broke that rule. That important rule.
When he broke rules, his parents used to shout and beat him, of course. He never asked them why, because it was also a rule. To not ask questions.
But this time, his parents weren't around to see him breaking that one important rule.
Well, of course, his mother was dead and his father was in an unknown place.
Izuku broke the rule by telling that cop from earlier about his parents.
He didn't tell everything, of course. Just a little.
He told a bit about the beating, and a bit about the rules. Not too much.
And now, in the strange house he was in, there were also rules.
But not as many as before, and they were.... easier.
Like, to not run away.
To always nock before he enters any rooms.
To lock the door when he's in the bathroom.
To not open the door for strangers.
To be quiet at nights, because people are sleeping.
